NCFL Minimum Play Rule


Each year, there are always questions and some confusion regarding the league's minimum play rule for the players.  Any minimum play rule walks the fine line between the player's best interest, and the coach's ability to effectively coach in a game.  The old rule forced coaches to keep kids in the game for a set number of plays, in the same position.  This led to some confusion amongst parents of why their child may be leaving the game, did they get the amount of plays they should have, and put the coaches at a disadvantage when playing against teams from other leagues that followed different rules.

Taking all of this into account, the NCFL Board has decided to simplify the minimum play rule, which still guarantees each player a good amount of playing time, but also gives the coaches greater leeway to move players between positions and substitute when necessary.  The new rule is also in line with the other leagues in the Lone Star Youth Football Alliance.  It reads...

"All players must have a starting position on offense or defense, and play at least 50% of the entire game.  Players may not be benched for any complete quarter or half.  They must be actively participate in each period of the game, in its entirety."
