George served as Head Baseball Coach at Wayne High School (516-304-5) for 27 years and two years as an assistant coach. His teams won four Ad State Championships, four AA State Runner-Ups and one AAA State Runner-Ups. George's team also made the 1989 AA State Playoff Final Four. He was a professional manager with the WV Coal Sox, (1993) of the Frontier League.

He was the chair person for Baseball America/National High School Baseball Coaches Association TOP 25 HIGH SCHOOL Baseball Poll for eight years and instrumental in organizing the WV Baseball Association.

George has won numerous National Coaching Awards: National Federation State High School Association District II Mideast Sectional Coach of the Year 2003, American Baseball Coaches Association Division III Region Coach of the Year 2004, National Nigh School Baseball Coaches Association District 2 Coach of the Year 1993-1994, American Baseball Coaches Association Distingnished Service Award 1991. In 2014 he was inducted into the NHSBCA Hall of Fame.

He is a member of the TEAM ONE National Coaching Staff and was a member of the coaching staff at the First Cape Cod National High School All Star game in 2005, George was one of the inaugural inductees elected into the WV Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2002.

In 2023 he was an assistant coach for the AAA State Champions Cabell Midland and his son Tracy Brumfield.
