Knights 4

It was Hall of Fame night at Brennan Field.  Three new members were inducted to the Knights hall of fame before the game.  Gail Brennan, Bette Jarvis, and Rod Sycks were inducted in front of a huge crowd of family and friends.  It was another very special night at Brennan Field.

In the ball game, Ben Sickler was in charge on the mound from the get go.  It took Ben just 88 pitches to throw the complete game shutout.  In 9 innings, Sickler gave up 0 runs on 7 hits, 1 walk and 5 strikeouts.  The Knights defense was stellar as well playing the game error free.  On offense the Knights put together some runs in a variety of ways.  They used speed on the base paths, the bunting game and a few extra base hits to score 4 runs.  Sam Haugen had 2 hits including a double.  Cory Schmidt and Bryce Erickson also had 2 hits.  Max Sickler, Jarrod Brennan and Griffin Stiel also had hits in the game with Sickler's being a double.

"It was another good week for the Knights.  We got to add some great people to our hall of fame and we earned two nice league wins."

The Knights have a big week with home, league games Tuesday and Wednesday against Chisago Lake and Ham Lake respectively.  Both of those games start at 7:30 pm.  Then, Friday through Sunday, the Knights host the Hinckley Invitational.  It is one of the long standing traditions in Minnesota townball.  It will be an 8 team field filled with great teams.  All games are 7 innings.  Come and check it out!  The Knights will open up the tournament on Friday night at 8:30 pm against the Sauk Rapids Cyclones.

Knights win 2 out of 3 in the Brennan Field Classic

Minneapolis North Stars 6

Knights 1

The Knights had trouble getting their bats going against the North Stars tough lefty.  Dylan Marciulionis started on the mound for the Knights and kept them in the game, but it was hard to keep up when the offense did not come thru with runs.  Griffin Stiel was the only Knights player with 2 hits.  Also getting hits were Bryce Erickson, Caleb Hogberg and Max Sickler.  Marciulionis went 4 and 1/3 innings, giving up 6 runs in which 3 were earned on 4 hits, 5 walks and 2 strikeouts.  Erickson pitched the last inning and 2/3, giving up no runs on no hits, one walk and 2 strike outs.  "It was not the way we wanted the first game of the tournament to go, but we continue to see great pitching which will help us in the long run."

Knights 5

Hibbing 1

The Knights received a very solid pitching performance from Isaiah Brennan and were able to put 5 runs up in the first two innings to take charge of this one early.  The Knights scored in the first after Max Sickler led off with a single, Isaiah Hasz walked and Sam Haugen scored on an error after getting on base on a fielder's choice.  Hinckley would add 4 runs in the 2nd inning.  It started with a single by Bryce Hipp.  Isaiah Brennan reached on an error.  Bryce Erickson then doubled to score Everett Ausmus, who ran for Hipp.  Griffin Stiel then grounded out but scored Brennan fron 3rd.  Max Sickler reached on a single, scoring Erickson.  Finally, Haugen singled to score Sickler.  From there Isaiah Brennan was in cruise control.  Brennan threw all 7 innings, giving up one unearned run on three hits and 2 walks.  Brennan struck out 7.  Sickler had 2 hits for the Knights, Haugen, Hasz, Hipp, Brennan and Erickson each had one hit for the Knights offense.  "It was big to get out to a lead.  It allowed Brennan to really pound the strike zone and be aggressive.  It was a good win over a quality team."

Knights 5

Metro Knights 1

The game for the consolation championship was very similar to the game the previous day and not only in that the score was the same.  Hinckley once again received a very solid pitching performace, this time by Isaiah Hasz and again they were able to jump out to an early lead by scoring 4 of their 5 runs in the 3rd inning.  The third inning for Hinckley started with a base hit from Brady Johnson, Bryce Hipp reached on an error while trying to move Johnson up on a bunt attempt.  Sam Haugen then singled to score Johnson, Hasz hit a sacrifice fly to score Sickler, who had reached on a fielder's choice.  Cory Schmidt then walked, followed by a big 2 out single by TJ Johnson to score both Haugen and Schmidt.  The Metro Knights would score their lone run of the game in the bottom of the 3rd inning on a homerun.  Hinckley would score their 5th run in the 5th inning on a sacrifice fly by Schmidt.  Hasz was in control on the mound.  He went all 7 innings giving up one earned run on 2 hits, 2 walks and 5 strikeouts.  Sam Haugen had 3 hits in the contest, including a double.  Schmidt, TJ and Brady Johnson and Everett Ausmus also had hits.  "It was a great tournment weekend.  We are looking forward to hosting the Hinckley invitational later in June.  We have had quite a stretch of games to start the season with 8 of the 9 games being against class A opponents.  We have seen a lot of good pitching and are feeling good about the benefits of that the rest of the season."  This week the Knights will host three games at Brennan Field.  They will play Nowthen on Wednesday, Chisago Lakes on Friday and Cambridge on Saturday night.  Saturday will also be Hall of Fame night as the Knights will welcome three new members, Gail Brennan, Bette Jarvis and Rod Sycks will be inducted.  All of the games this week are scheduled for a 7:30 pm first pitch.

Knights open up league play with 2 solid wins over Elk River and Mora!

Hinckley 9

Elk River 1

A game that was supposed to be played in Elk River, was changed to Brennan Field about an hour and a half before the game due to field conflicts in Elk River, didn't start until after 8:00 pm.  The Knights use a stellar pitching performance by Dylan Marciulionis and Isaiah Hasz to hold the Class A Lumberjacks to just one run.  It was a big challenge for the Knights as Elk River started Mike Prosch on the hill who had a stellar year at Gustavus this spring.  The Knights were able to get on the board in the first as Cory Schmidt singled with two outs and the Hasz hit an rbi triple.  The Knights went up 3-0 in the 5th when hit a single that scored both Bryce Erickson and Noah Furcht.  As it turns out the game was probably decided in the bottom of the 6th as Marciulionis was able to pitch out of a bases loaded and no outs situation while only giving up one run.  The Knights would begin to pull away in the 8th with some good 2 out hitting.  Erickson picked up and RBI with a clutch 2 out single.  Griffin Stiel then drove in another run with an infield single.  The Knights scored three more in the top of the 9th without a hit.  A combination of walks and hit by pitches contributed.  Hasz threw the final three innings to pick up the save.  Schmidt, Hasz, Cody Gustafson, Erickson, Bryce Hipp and Stiel had hits for the Knights.  Marciulionis picked up the win for the Knights going 6 innings, while giving up 1 run on four hits and 3 walks.  Hasz threw 3 innings giving up no runs on 3 hits and one walk.  "It was a great way to start the league season.  It was evident that the competition that we played in the non-league games played in May has paid off.

Knights 3

Mora 0

It was a special night at the field as the Knights honored Shawn Ausmus for all of his contributions on and off the field over the past 3 decades. The Knights also retired Shawn's number 16 jersey in front of many friends, family members, communitity members and sponsors.  The huge crowd watched Ben Sickler throw a complete game, 3 hit shut out.  The Knights scored in the 3rd inning as Max Sickler led off with a ringing triple to right center.  Trevor Johnson follow the triple up with a sacrifice fly to make it 1-0.  The Knights scored the final 2 runs of the game in the 5th inning as Noah Furcht doubled to score Max Sickler who had reached on an error.  Cory Schmidt followed Furcht's double with a single to score him.  From there Ben Sickler did the rest on the mound and the Knights went on to the 3-0 victory.   Offensively, Max Sickler collected 2 hits including the triple, Trevor Johnson, Furcht, Schmidt, Marciulionis, and Brady Johnson also had hits.  Ben Sickler was outstanding on the hill going all 9 innings.  He gave up 0 runs on 3 hits and 3 walks.  "It was a great weekend of baseball for the Knights.  Our pitching staff was outstanding and we did not commit and error in either game."  The Knights will host the Brennan Field classic June 6th though the 8th.  The Knights will open up the tournament on Friday night at 8:30 pm vs the Minneapolis Northstars.

5/26/25

A message from the GM Tim Thom

May 31st. Remember I said mark it on your calendar? Well, here are the details. It's Leinenkugel night at the park. First and foremost, I want to recognize our sponsors. Without them we could not do nights like this. They are, Von Rueden Farms, Daggett's Fresh Foods, and Bernick's of Duluth. Thank you all for your support! We are serving up free dinner for everyone. Pulled pork sandwiches and potato salad. We will start serving at 4:00 and continue until gone. We will also have Leinenkugel long necks for $2.00. The game will start at 5:00. Mora is in town, and this is always a great ballgame. And last but certainly not least, we are retiring a jersey. There is only 1 jersey hanging on the fence at this time. Now there will be 2. After holding down the corners for 20 plus years, #16 is going to hang up the cleats. Shawn Ausmus has been a mainstay in this organization for over 2 decades. Shawn exemplifies what an amateur baseball player is on and off the field. As he moves on from playing ball, he has resurrected the Legion team in Hinckley. Again, always doing it right. Please come out and give him the sendoff he deserves. See ya at the park.

5/25/25

The Knights continued with their non-league class A opponents from the Metro-Minny this past week by hosting  the Coon Rapids Redbirds and the Andover Aces.

Coon Rapids 21

Hinckley Knights 16

In a game in which many referred to the final score as a football score, the Redbirds outlasted the Knights on a cool night at Brennan Field.  The Knights started fast and built a 9-2 lead after 4 innings.  Ben Sickler threw 4 solids innings giving up only 1 earned run on 6 hits, one walk and 3 strikeouts.  Also see time on the mound were Bryce Erickson, Cory Schmidt and Griffin Stiel.  The Knights had no trouble putting runs on the board all night, the problem was holding the Redbirds down, as they scored 19 runs in the final 4 innings of the game.  The Knights did not help the cause as they committed 8 errors in the game and walked 13 batters.  The Knights were led offensively by Cory Schmidt who had 4 hits including a homerun.  Bryce Hipp and TJ Johnson both had 3 hits, Isaiah Hasz, Brady Johnson and Erickson had 2 hits a piece and Dylan Marciulionis, Everett Ausmus and Griffin Stiel had one hit a piece.  It was a 20 hit attack for the Knights.  "We hit the ball well all night long.  We had some trouble making the plays and throwing strikes a times.  We are working out all of the kinks and finding out where people are comfortable playing.  That is why we play the non-league games against these quality opponents.  They prepare us for what the rest of the season will bring.

Andover 9

Hinckley Knights 1

The final non-league game before league action begins was a clash with a solid Andover team.  The Aces started Collin Anderson, who is on the Minnesota State Mankato baseball team.  He went 6 innings allowing 3 hits and striking out 6.  Dylan Marciulionis stated on the hill for the Knights going 4 and 2/3 innings allowing 7 runs, in which only 2 were earned, on 9 hits, one walk and 4 strikeouts.  Isaiah Hasz threw the next 3 and 1/2 innings allowing 2 hits 0 walks and 2 runs while striking out 3.  Cody Gustafson threw a 1-2-3 9th inning for the Knights.  Offensively, Cory Schmidt had his 2nd homerun in as many games.  Marciulionis and Jeff Lahti had the other 2 hits for the Knights.  "Although we haven't gotten into the win column in the first four games, we accomplished our goal of facing solid competition and some good pitching.  We were able to get some of our guys who are out of high school and college some at bats to ge them ready for the season and some of our college and high school players continue to trickle back in after their seasons finish up.  We are looking forward to the league schedule starting 5/30 at Elk River and Saturday 5/31 at home vs. Mora.

The Hinckley Knights play their home games at historic Brennan Field in Hinckley, Minnesota.
