A Tribute to Steve Born (as read at Athletic Park on June 8, 2025)
Before today’s game begins, we’d like to take a moment to remember a great friend of the Chaska Cubs - Steve Born, who passed away on Friday, June 6th, at the age of 82.
Steve was raised right here in Chaska and graduated from Guardian Angels High School. He built a lifetime of friendships in this community and touched the lives of many through decades of coaching high school sports. As a coach and mentor, Steve helped shape the lives of countless young athletes - many of whom stayed in touch with him long after their playing days were done. His impact extended far beyond the field.
Steve was also a dedicated supporter and longtime volunteer for the Chaska Cubs. You could often find him working the ticket booth, then jumping in to help at the concession stand for a few innings, and in recent years, spending time in the Nikolai tent — frequently trying (with little luck) to straighten out Dale Welter.
Steve was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sue, and is survived by his daughter Stephanie, his son John, John's wife Gina, and two grandchildren, Joey and Mac.
Please join us in a moment of silence to honor and remember Steve Born - a true Chaska original whose kindness, dedication, and spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
