Specialty Position Player Needed -- Is this You?
For the 2025 Season the Chaos need one player for a football player specialist position. That is become an expert at the position, practice this every day and become the best at one Special Teams position (that is critical to much of the game) The position is Long Snapper watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ovkmo0fipu0
The player filling this position will have this sole job on the team, needs to be able to have grit, snap with grace under pressure, and take pride at being one of the best and desire to get on the WFA All-American team in a specialist position.
Responsibilites of a long snapper
- Consistently placing the ball between the punter's chest and mid-thigh.
- They are consistent with their speed. The ball should be on a straight line and not an arc.
- For high school the time from snapper to punter or holder should be .7 to .8 seconds.
- Perfect laces for holder on extra point or field goal.
- Block or release depending on your scheme. Play toward the snapper's strength
One More tthing for LS/P/K:
- The kicker and punter are only as good as their long snapper.
- Inconsistent long snaps create major issues.
- You will set aside some time to work on their skills before, after, or during practice. At the start or pre-practice start time.
More questions, send name, email address, telephone number, past athletic experience to columbuschaoscoach@gmail.com
See you at tryouts.
2025 Season Practice Thought:
Practice specific drills that directly reflect what we do schematically as an offense. These drills should also be position specific to replicate what that position does in a game.
Any position can use a handful of drills during the season that the player can "Kick 10,000" times to become GREAT. These practiced drills drill COMPETIVENESS, CONSISTENCY AND GREATNESS leading to the play of each player using football skills that have become second nature (like blinking) for Chaos players – translating and leading to increased success on gamedays.
Simple. Efficient.. 10,000 Kicks
WHAT IS THE 10,000 kicks reference?
It is from this Bruce Lee, Martial Arts master quote:
"I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.
Now the question is can you as a Chaos player commit to 10,000 kicks? Those that can will elevate her game and lead her teammates in their game elevation. Commitment is necessary.
(thanks Coach Richardson for your thoughts on this subject).
Congratulations Cincinnati Cougars for becoming the WFA Division III Champions this past weekend. Great job, keep it up and rule DIII. Repeat!!

Chaos 2024 Season ends and 2025 is on the Horizon!
The Chaos may have lost the game against Pittsburgh. However, for the fans in attendance they witnessed some great hits on the Passio by Chaos players.
A "Sammy hit" by Samantha Kerr, hits by Hannah Bleikamp in all three team units, Katie Lynn Grunza with big hits and alot more hits that left Passion players wondering who had hit them.
The Passion team know that in the future game a different Chaos team may show up based on the experience from this game.
See you Chaos fans in 2025.
Columbus Chaos Defeated by Derby
The Chaos were defeated 27-0 on Saturday, June 1, 2024 in front of a large and enthusiastic crowd. Miscues during offensive drives kept the touchdowns from rolling in during the game.
"A disheartening loss to a team we should have easily defeated," stated a team captain after the game.
The Chaos have a bye June 8 and end the regular season at home on June 15. The Division I Pittsburgh Passion come to Columbus to end the season. The play between these teams has consistently been intense over the years.

Columbus Comets Player # 37
The Columbus Comets Family is saddened by the death of former Columbus Comets player Stephanie Stevens, (Number 37, Running Back). She was a great team mate, person, and mentor to many. We treasure our time and memories of being her team mate, knowing her and her son Dallas — who came to so many practices. #37 you are in our hearts forever.
Stephanie Stevens (number 37) - - Slan Go Foill (slawn go foyle) as the Irish grandmas taught us to say. It generally means “goodbye for now” and implies that we will meet again.
Well 37 this is the sentiment of your Comet team mates. Read this Irish prayer: “Those we love do not go away. They walk beside us everyday, unseen, unheard but always near. Still loved, still missed”.
https://www.thechapelofpeace.com/stephanie-stevens/
Number 37: Great player, Great Teammate, Great Parent, Excellent Person
Now on that Comet team with Coach McDade, Chrissy Fowler (29), Angie Nelson (31), and Latasha Dailey (83). “Still loved and missed”.
Week Four:
Week four finds the 1-2 Chaos going to Detroit. This is an important game for both teams. Can the three parts of the Chaos get it together for a win?
2024 Season Game 2 Quote of the Wreek:
(based off a quote heard by a coach in end of game circle)
We are proud of the effort you put in. Your hard work did not go unnoticed - by the fans, or the Slam. Let's get back to practice week next, make the adjustments and continue the track to the 2024 championship game in Canton.
NEVER let the fear of striking out get in the your way or preparation for the next game.
Game 1: Chaos are defeated
The Chaos opened the season away at St. Louis. The Slam play in the Pro Division, which is one division above the Chaos' Division II.
This was a big game for the rookie laden team. Hard work, grit and no quit were evident.
The final score was 51-3 and the Chaos are now 0-1. The defense began to emerge as the game went on, Special Teams were not up to the level as past games, and the offense found control and rhythm that produced the field goal drive. This was a great first game to see the Chaos play and get work in for this season.
Big highlight of the game was the 31 yard field goal by the FG team and kicker Kate McEarchern.
These three points are important: 1) this is the first score against the Slam in many games and 2) scoring points against a Pro team may be important in any tie breaker for the playoff game(s).
The Chaos open at home on Saturday, May 6, at 6:00 p.m. agains Grand Rapids. The game is at Whitehall Yearling.
Quote of the Week (2024 Season Style)
“You'll never know what you're capable of until you take that first step and just go for it.”
Natasha Hastings, American Track and Field Sprinter
Thought of the Week: 3-24-2024
(This is awesome)
“I hope it encourages people to not stop before they reach their potential,” she told reporters after winning the title Thursday night. “And I hope it transcends into other areas, not just in sports, but also in other areas of life, like work and professional careers.”

What is CASKR?
Call

Responsibility
each player has CASKR on all plays. Sideline players should mentally rep CASKR each play.
Special Teams Mantra (derived rom JCB Football)
1. Being on a Special Team is an honor to me as a football player.
2. I am a member of a Special Team because of certain skills that I possess that others do not.
3. I know how vital my job is to overall team success.
4. It is imperative that I give a total physical, mental, and emotional effort to doing my job.
5. I will concentrate fully on my job. Nothing should cause me to ever lose my single mindedness of purpose in pursuit of Special Team excellence.
6. I will totally prepare myself for each Special Teams Assignments. I will know my responsibilities, askCASKR questions to he special teams Coordinator, plus study films to determine the best way to do my job.
7. I will always practice seriously. This is not a time to relax but a time to be totally involved physically, mentally, and emotionally.
8. I will know the rules for the kicking game and will never make a mental error in this phase of the game.
9. My "head will always be in the game" and I will always be alert to the situation on the field and what might develop. I will always be ready to go in should the situation require my special unit to take the field.
10. If injury or equipment problems arise I will immediately notify the Special Team Coordinator.
11. If for any reason during the game I am removed from my offensive or defensive position I will remain on the special teams. Platoon substitutions do not carry over to Special Teams. Only the Special Teams Coordinator will make Special Teams substitutions.
12. When entering the game I will notify the player whose place I am taking and tell her to leave the game. (if not notified she will remain in the game).
13. I will always read the Special Teams game day notes and diagrams and follow up with CASKR assignments with the Special Teams Coordinator.

General Information on Special Teams:
Special teams strategy
"Special teams" is the term used to describe the group of players who take the field during kickoffs, free kicks, punts, and field goal attempts. Most football teams' special teams include one or more kickers, a long snapper (who specializes in accurate snaps over long distances), kick returners who catch and carry the ball after it is kicked by the opposing team, and blockers who defend during kicks and returns.
Most special teams are made up of players who act as backups or substitutes on the team's offensive and defensive units. Because of the risk of injury, it is uncommon for a starting offensive or defensive player to also play on a special teams unit.
A variety of strategic plays can be attempted during kickoffs, punts, and field goals—to surprise the opposition and score points, gain yardage or first downs, or recover possession of the kicked ball.
Kickoffs
A kickoff occurs at the beginning of each half, overtime period (not in college), and following each touchdown, successful field goal, or safety. Strategically, the coach of the other team may choose to have his players kick the ball in one of several ways:
Standard kickoff: The kicker attempts a high kick meant to travel the greatest possible distance upfield. The kicking team's primary goal is to stop the opposing team's returner as close as possible to the end zone, thus forcing that team to advance the ball a longer distance to score.
Onside kick: This is a very short kick with the goal of the kicking team recovering the ball, usually attempted in the closing minutes of play when a team needs to score again quickly to have a chance of winning.
"Squib kick" or "pooch kick": The squib kick is a low kick that may hit the ground and bounce in a random fashion, making it less predictable. A squib kick is generally used when trying to avoid a run-back, although this outcome is not guaranteed. A pooch kick is used for a similar purpose, except is a short, high kick that the Kick-Off team can get to before there is a return. Because the kick does not travel nearly as far as a standard kickoff, this strategy gives the opposing team better average field position, but the advantage is that a long kick return is less likely.
Kickoff out-of-bounds: If a kickoff travels over the sidelines either in the air, or bounces in the field of play, then rolls out-of-bounds without being touched by a player on the receiving team, the play results in an illegal procedure penalty. The ball is then spotted 30 yards from the spot of the kick or at the out-of-bounds, resulting in a first down (and beginning of offensive series) for the receiving team. Sometimes, although very rarely, the kicking team purposely kicks the ball out of bounds if they're facing an excellent kick returner.
Punts
Standard punts: Most teams punt on fourth down when the chances of gaining enough yards for a first down are slim and when the ball is too far from the goalpost to allow a field goal try. Generally, a member of the opposing team moves into position to catch the ball. He may try to gain yards by running the ball downfield, or he may signal a fair catch by waving one arm above his head, thus signaling that he won't try to return the ball downfield. A player who has signaled a fair catch may not be tackled after catching the ball, or the player who tackled him is penalized for kick-catching interference.
Pooch punts: Occasionally, a coach lines his team up in a shotgun formation and has the quarterback "quick kick," or "pooch punt," to use the element of surprise to cause the defense not to have a receiver ready. Some teams even do this from a field goal formation, having the ball snapped directly to the placekicker who punts the ball downfield instead of trying a field goal that has a low chance for success.
Fake punts: In much the same way as a fake field goal (described below), a fake punt is an effort to trick the opposition and either score or gain enough yards for a first down. Fake punts are risky for the same reasons as fake field goals and are thus rarely attempted.
Punts out-of-bounds: Skilled punters may try to punt a ball past the return team so that the ball touches the playing field in bounds, then rolls out of bounds close to the opposing team's end zone. The drawback to such a punt is that the ball may roll into the end zone (touchback), giving the receiving team normal starting position. Or, if the kick is angled too sharply, it goes out of bounds too early and results in an unusually short, or botched, punt. The best punters are highly regarded for their ability to put the ball out of bounds within five yards of the goal line. These punts are also known as a "coffin corner punt" due to their ability to pin an opposing offense inside its own five-yard line, thus increasing the chances for the opposing defense to score a safety or a defensive touchdown.
Field goals
Field goals are worth one point after a scored touchdown, or three points in the event that a team does not score a touchdown but feels it is positioned close enough for the kicker to make the attempt.
Standard field goals: The strategy for a field goal is fairly straightforward. The team on offense forms a protective semicircle behind the line of scrimmage on either side of the center, who snaps the ball to the holder. The holder positions the ball so that the kicker - moving from a short distance away - can quickly get into position and accurately kick the ball through the goalposts. The remaining players block the opposing team, whose members try to break through the protective circle to block the kick or bat it aside for a chance to intercept the ball. If a team misses the field goal, the opposing team takes possession of the ball from the spot where the ball was kicked, as opposed to the line of scrimmage. Several factors, including distance, weather, crowd noise, and a kicker's leg strength and experience determine the success or failure of a field goal attempt.
Fake field goals: In some situations, a coach may choose to have his team fake a field goal attempt. The players line up as normal, but instead of holding the ball for a kick, the player receiving the snap may run with the ball, hand it off to another player, or attempt to throw it downfield.
Field goal returns: It is possible for the defensive team to return a missed field goal. If a field goal attempt is short of the goal posts a player may return the ball just as on a punt. Teams usually try a return only when a very long field goal is attempted at the end of the first half, since in all other cases it is more advantageous for the defense to just let the ball fall short. In college football games, if a team is able to run the ball back into their end zone it counts for only 3 points.
Kick and punt returns
Standard returns: The biggest choice facing a kick returner is whether to attempt to run the ball back. Generally, a returner who catches a kickoff or punt in the "red zone" between the receiving team's own end zone and 20-yard line attempts some sort of return, if only to gain a few yards. If the receiving team's players can get into position quickly, they may be able to allow the returner to gain further yardage, or break away from the pack entirely and score a touchdown.
Laterals: In extreme cases—generally during kickoff returns in the closing seconds of play—the returner may attempt a lateral pass to avoid the ball being downed in a tackle. The return team may throw as many lateral passes as they choose, and this is normally done in a desperate attempt to keep the ball alive.
Fair catches: A kick returner may signal a fair catch if the ball will be caught with good field position, or if the kicking team's members are advancing so quickly that a return is impossible. However, he is penalized if he attempts a return after signaling a fair catch; likewise, players who tackle a returner who has signaled a fair catch is penalized. If a player waves for a fair catch and then fails to touch the ball, it may be downed as normal by the kicking team, but if recovered by the receiving team, may not be advanced. However, if any member of the receiving team catches a ball and then drops it, it becomes a live ball and may be recovered by either side.
"Live balls" and "Dead balls": If a punted ball is touched after passing the line of scrimmage, even inadvertently, by a member of the receiving team it becomes a live ball and may be recovered as if a fumble by the kicking team. Conversely if the receiving team doesn't touch the ball and a member of the kicking team touches it, the ball is ruled down where it is touched and play is dead. All place-kicked balls—kick-offs, field goal attempts, and the like—are live balls, which may be played in one way or another by either team (subject to restrictions in the case of any "free" kick: see onside kick).
Downing the ball
If, for whatever reason, the receiving team does not catch the ball, the kicking team may move into position and try to down it as close as possible to the opposing team's end zone. This is achieved by surrounding the ball and allowing it to roll or bounce, without touching it, as close as possible to the end zone. If the ball appears to be rolling or bouncing into the end zone, a player may run in front of the goal line and attempt to bat it down or catch it. If a member of the kicking team touches or catches the ball before a member of the receiving team does so, the ball is blown dead by the official when he has judged that the returner is not going to pick up the ball and return it, or the kicking team picks the ball up and hands it to the official. Once the whistle is blown the play is over and the receiving team takes possession at the spot the ball was spotted by the official.
Thus it is strategically important for kicking teams to get as close to the ball as possible after a punt, so that they may quickly tackle a returner, down the ball as close to the opposing team's end zone as possible, and (if possible) recover the ball after a fumble and regain possession of the ball.

With that entry into the playoffs Coach has become not only the first women to coach boy's high school football in Ohio but the first to coach in an OHSAA football playoff game.
Keep bringing that coaching, Coach M.D. Further,

32 Days
32 days until the October tryouts for the 2024 football season begin. The first Saturday in October.
The important question is what are you doing to be ready for the tryout and the season?
Interested in trying out email: columbuswft@gmail.com with your full name, height and weight, athletic background (no football experience needed), social media account information, telephone contact number and email address. If you are transferring from another team give that team and when and what position played on that team.
Questions can also be sent to that email address. The official Columbus Chaos website and social media accounts will have more information as the date(s) come nearer.
See You In October
Tryouts for the 2024 season will begin in October 2023. There are holes to be filled and new players ready to come an attempt to play for the Chaos. Can incoming players mesh with the team to provide the needed push to get to Canton?
First Seed for Play-Offs Squandered on June 24
Not much to say except the Chaos were upset in the first round of the 2023 by Baltimore. The final score was 13-11.
The Chaos could not get on track offensively, mistakes added up and a 4th quarter drive to take the lead back fizzled with a run play being stuffed by the Baltimore defense.
It did not help that the Chaos were forced to move the game to Mansfield after Whitehall Yearling dumped the home game when the Cleveland Browns needed a field for a community event.
Look toward 2024 to see if Chaos magic can occur to get to Canton and take the championship.

Chaos Defeat Derby City
Is the victory over Derby City on Saturday, June 3, 2023 the start of a run to the championship game in Canton?
The Chaos had a hard fought away game battle against the Derby City Dynamite and took back to Columbus a 32-18 win.
The final score was 32-18. This brings the Chaos to a 3-2 season record.
It also brings them to a must win next game. The next game will determine many things regarding 2023 playoffs. The game is a home game on June 10, 2023. It will be against the Capital City Savages who are 4-1 this season. "This will be one tough game that we have weekend next", stated K.T, Thomas, Head Coach. He continued, "this will require precision and determination of all the coaches and players to pull out a win."

The Biggest Chaos Game Ever?
The Chaos travel to play the Derby City Dynamite on Saturday, June 3.
Is this the biggest game in the short history of the Chaos? Can the Chaos upset Derby City? (yes, even though D.C. has no wins this is the hardest game of the season for the Chaos and a must win game).
All three game facets will need to be on point and working together the entire game.
Upset on May 20, 2023
Upset was the word at the end of the Saturday, May 20, 2023 Chaos home game against the Baltimore Nighhawks. Holding onto a slim 6-0 lead for much of the game the Chaos gave up a safety and then touchdown. While the Chaos blocked the extra point players did not pick up the ball and try to advance it down the field for two points that are possible in that situation -- which would have tied the game.
Miscues, mental mistakes, and other fundamental errors by the Chaos contributed.
The Chaos now stand at 2-2 this season, the momentum may be lost, and playoff hopes and hopes for home games in the playoffs are slipping away.
A difficult trip against Derby City is next on June 3, 2023 that is an away game.

Chaos Game 4
The Chaos next play on Saturday, May 2023. This is a home game with a 6:00 p.m. kick-off.
The opponent will be the Baltimore Nighthawks. The Nighthawks demolished the Chaos in 2022 45-24 to end the Chaos playoff run.
"This should be a great game against a really strong opponent", stated Head Coach K.T. Thomas. "We have our work cut out for us and have to be on point in all of our offense and defense to take this game. The home crowds have been great this season and we need their 12th man spirit to help us", he continued.

WFA Division 2 National League Standings
The WFA standings as of Sunday, May 7, 2023 have the Columbus Chaos remain in first place in the Division 2 National League despite the loss to St. Louis Slam (42-0 on May 6, 2023).
The next game is important to remain on top in the standings and a clear, large point victory is needed for standings.
Chaos Get Slammed!
The 2023 game three of the season for the Chaos was the sesason opener. Great weather, large and excited crowd were in place for the 6:00 p.m. kick-off.
Not a great game for the young Chaos team. The inexperience showed in all facets of the game. In the end the Chaos are now 2-1 on the season. The final score was 42-0.
The Chaos have a bye week on Saturday, May 13. During the break the team will work on the corrections needed to continue the work to get to the playoffs. The next opponent is a tough one, Baltimore Nighthawks. The Nighthawks defeated the Chaos in the first round of the 2022 playoffs by a score of 45-24.

GAME 1 OVER: WIN FOR THE CHAOS
The first game of the season is in the books for the Chaos. With great efforts by all three segments (Special Teams, Defense, and Offense) the result was a 6-0 victory over Detroit Venom in an away game.
The game began with a timeout by the Venom as the Chaos readied for the first kick-off. An onside kick was recovered by the Chaos and the game was on. All three teams were on point and will ready themselves to take on Grand Rapids in an away game this weekend next.
Chaos Offensive Coordinator, C.J. Johnson said after the game, "A 1-0 start is always a great way to start the season. We have alot to improve on this next week to shore up some weaknesses."
The away crowd that travelled to Detroit to see the game was one of the largest away crowds in Chaos history.
FIRST GAME KICK-OFF TIME ALERT:
There is a discrepancy between the kick-off time for the first game. It is away at Detroit Venom. Their home site lists kick-off at 6:00 p.m. This was the time before they suddenly found a new field for the game. Fans going to Detroit may want to plan accordingly for an earlier kickoff.
