Sure, you might know a little bit about Michael Phelps, the greatest Olympian of all time. But did you know what his connection to Under Armour is? Or how much money the 5-time Olympian has made in a 20-year professional swimming career?

Here are some fun facts about the greatest swimmer of all time, Michael Phelps:

What goggles did Michael Phelps wear? For years Michael Phelps wore Speedo goggles. But now, he has partnered up with Aqua Sphere to produce and distribute his own line of goggles under the MP Michael Phelps goggles brand. Presently Michael Phelps has a series of swim goggles, including the MP Michael Phelps Xceed swim goggles, which retail for around $40.

How much was Michael Phelps worth? According to this biography of Michael Phelps he is currently worth around $55 million dollars, which is easily the most money that a competitive swimmer has ever made from the sport. His endorsement deal with Under Armour alone is reportedly worth $7 million a year. That particular partnership makes sense when you consider that they are both from the city of Baltimore, Maryland.

How strong is Michael Phelps? There is no disputing that Michael was an absolute monster in the pool. Between his mountain of gold medals, world records, and Olympic titles he can be easily considered one of the greatest athletes to ever live. But did his water savvy extend to dry land? Apparently it did. According to Phelps’ 2009 auto-biography “No Limits” he could box squat 300 pounds for over 20 reps at a time. His one rep maximum for a regular barbell back squat was 385 pounds, and Phelps could churn out pull ups like he owed them money, with his personal best being 32 repetitions on the chin-up bar.

How often would he train? Here is where Phelps’ stats are truly legendary. While the training demands of competitive swimmers are absolutely no joke, with most age group programs regularly doing 10 swim practices per week, Phelps and his coach Bob Bowman understood from an early point that in order to do what no one else ever had they would have to do would no one else was willing. This included a stretch of nearly five years in the lead up to the 2008 Beijing Olympics where Phelps didn’t miss a single day where he was in the pool. Birthdays? Swimming. New Years? Swimming. Christmas? Swimming. It was this kind of rabid dedication and commitment that helped propely him to the 8-gold medal performance that summer in China.

What was Michael Phelps’ resting heart rate? The average human being has a resting heart rate of approximately 70 beats per minute. Miguel Indurain has one of the most legendary heart rates of all time, with a reported 28 bpm, with most endurance athletes clocking in around 40bpm. When Phelps pulled his swim goggles off and relaxed on dryland, his resting heart rate was a steady 38bpm, meaning that his heart was more efficient at pumping blood to his muscles than his competitors.
