Parent Code of Conduct

This code serves to remind parents of the importance of acting as a positive role model, while showing encouragement and respectful behavior toward others during CYO athletic events. We kindly ask that all CYO parents read and understand our Parent's Code of Conduct prior to their children participating in our programs.

The CYO Parent Code of Conduct outlines rules and responsibilities for all CYO parents.

CYO Athletics Parent Code of Conduct

I will respect my child’s teammates and fellow parents as well as the players, parents and coaches from opposing team.

I will give only encouragement and applaud only positive accomplishments whether for my child, his/her teammates, their opponents or the officials.

I will respect my child’s coach and support his/her efforts.

I will respect all facilities made available so my child can play games and practice his/her sport.

I will never demonstrate threatening or abusive behavior or use foul language.

No Weapons of any kind are allowed at CYO games.  If a weapon is discovered, it is automatic removal from that event and possible barring from attending future events for the remainder of the season.

I also agree that if I fail to abide by the rules and guidelines listed above, I will be subject to disciplinary action that could include, but is not limited to the following:

Verbal warning by official, site director, and/or CYO representative

Removal from an athletic event

Removal for the remainder of the season

Removal from the program

I understand if I am removed from an athletic event, I am automatically barred from attending the next scheduled competition for that team. I must meet with the member administrator about the incident and obtain a signed letter from the member administrator requesting CYO diocesan administration to permit me to attend future competitions.

I understand if I am removed from an event for a second time, I will not be permitted to attend any competitions for the remainder of the season. I must meet with the member administrator about the incident and obtain a signed letter from the member administrator asking the diocesan administration to permit me to attend events in the subsequent season.

The disciplinary action taken is at the judgment of the Commissioner and CYO Administration and could escalate based on the severity of the incident and behavior.

                              J.V. Boys Basketball Rules & Regulations (New rules in red)

•             League will continue to use the regulation size ball for Junior Varity games;

•             Junior Varsity games will consist of 7 minute quarters; with the clock being stopped on every whistle the final minute of each quarter;

•             Halftime is a firm three (3) minutes for each game;     

• Teams will shoot two free throws for common fouls when in the “bonus.” This change to Rule 4-8-1 eliminates the one-and-one scenario and sets new foul limits each quarter for awarding the bonus free throw. In addition to awarding two foul shots for all common fouls, teams will reach the bonus when their opponent commits five fouls in each quarter and team fouls will reset at the end of each quarter. This eliminates the one-and-one for common fouls beginning with the seventh team foul in the half and establishes the bonus as two free throws awarded for a common foul beginning with the team’s fifth foul in each quarter and resets the fouls at the end of each quarter.

•             Each team gets 3 full timeouts and 2-30 second timeouts per game;

•             Seat belt rule applies. Only two coaches on the bench with only the head coach standing;

•             There are two referees per game, each team must pay $45.00 cash to one of the officials during                             halftime; 

• Pressing is allowed the last FOUR (4) minutes of the 2nd quarter and the last FOUR (4) minutes of the 4th quarter.
•  All overtime periods are three additional minutes, with a stopping clock in the final minute.  Sudden death will follow the 1st overtime during the regular season.  In the tournament the overtimes will continue! During each overtime period, each team gets an additional full time out;

•             In the absence of a fast break, a team cannot pick up on defense until the offensive players are three feet over the mid-court line.  DEFENSIVE PLAYERS MUST START DEFENSE BEHIND THE 3 POINT LINE AND CANNOT APPROACH THE OFFENSIVE PLAYER UNTIL THEY ARE ESTABLISHED ACROSS MID-COURT OR HAVE TAKEN 2 STEPS OVER THE MID-COURT LINE.  This rule, however, is suspended during the final two minutes of every half, and during all overtime periods: at those times, full court pressure can be applied;

•             If the team with the ball pushes forward on a fast break during the game, the opposing team may defend anywhere on the court;

•             Trophies for league champions & 1st and 2nd place trophies for the team;

•             All-star game- 3 players from 1st & 2nd place teams and 2 players from all other teams;

•             The “MERCY RULE” comes in effect at 20 points.   There is a continuous clock after a 20 point lead.  The clock stops only for timeouts, injuries and Official time-outs.  The clock will run continuously through fouls, free throws, out of bound plays and substitutions.  The team with the lead cannot not press the losing team and must defend with one foot inside of the lane;

•             There is a “ZERO TOLERANCE” policy for disrespectful conduct of coaches, players, parents & spectators; Coaches are responsible for the behavior and actions of their players and fans; Coaches please realize that you represent your Parish & School and that your teams’ reputation is not only built on their playing ability but their sportsmanship and character.  We should remain humble in victory and courteous in defeat!
