There is a “ZERO TOLERANCE” policy for disrespectful conduct of coaches,

players, parents & spectators; Coaches are responsible for the behavior and

actions of their players and fans; Coaches please realize that you represent

your Parish & School and that your teams’ reputation is not only built on their

playing ability but their sportsmanship and character.

We should remain humble in victory and courteous in defeat!

Region 58 J.V. Girls Rules

Sportsmanship:

Coaches are urged to stress sportsmanship and self-control to both teams’ players and fans. Constant ‘second guessing’ of officials by the coaches and fans only detracts from the spirit and purpose of CYO. These unsportsmanlike actions on the part of a coach or fan encourage disrespect for officials and poor-looser traits in the players and can incur penalties to the team.  At CYO games, coaches are considered responsible for the action of his/her team’s fans. Repeated complaints of unsportsmanlike conduct received by the Commissioners may result in penalties meted out by the Regional Boards through the regional Coordinators.

Lateness:

The following policy shall govern teams who are late for a game or event.

A fifteen (15) minute grace period is granted to all teams. At the conclusion of this time, the head official may forfeit the game. At which time, the forfeiting team will be held responsible for the entire amount of officials’ fees.  A team with a requisite number of players is not entitled to the forfeit time.

***A team may start with 4 players.

All complaints must be submitted to the Commissioner in writing or by e-mail.

  1. There will be 4 – 6 minute quarters.
  2. Clock will only stop for free throws and time outs until the final minute of each quarter- then it will stop on all whistles.
  3. Halftime is a firm 3 minutes for each game.
  4. Overtime is an additional three minutes, clock will stop on free throws and time outs until the final minute when clock will stop on all whistles.  After the OT period – Sudden Death (next basket wins – free throw or field goal).
  5. Each team has 3 Full and 2 thirty second time outs per game.  During OT, each team gets an additional full time out along with any remaining time outs from regulation.
  6. In the absence of a fast break, the defense must be inside the three point line.  This rule is suspended during the final two minutes of each half and during all OT periods; at those times, the opposing team may defend anywhere on the court unless the mercy rule is in effect.
  7. 3 point shots will count for 3 points.
  8. If the team with the ball pushes forward on a fast break, the opposing team may defend anywhere on the court.
  9. Whenever there is a loose ball (no one has possession – “50-50” ball), the defense can leave and pursue the loose ball.  This is the same for a rebound – once the ball is in the air, the defense can pursue the rebound anywhere. Once possession has been established the defense must retreat, there is no challenging.
  10. RULE CHANGE:  Teams will shoot two free throws for common fouls when in the “bonus.” This change to Rule 4-8-1 eliminates the one-and-one scenario and sets new foul limits each quarter for awarding the bonus free throw. In addition to awarding two foul shots for all common fouls, teams will reach the bonus when their opponent commits five fouls in each quarter and team fouls will reset at the end of each quarter. This eliminates the one-and-one for common fouls beginning with the seventh team foul in the half and establishes the bonus as two free throws awarded for a common foul beginning with the team’s fifth foul in each quarter and resets the fouls at the end of each quarter.
  11.  Mercy Rule:  If a team gets ahead by 10 points or more, all of its players must play defense inside the three point line.  Once the ball is shot, the defensive team can leave and pursue the rebound anywhere. But if the offensive team secures the rebound, then the defensive players must immediately retreat inside the 3 point line as before.
  12.  Seat Belt rule applies – only head coach may stand.
  13. Coaches are required to have at least the players name in the book prior to the start of the game (if the number isn’t known) to avoid an administrative technical foul.
  14. Uniforms – all participants are to be properly uniformed with numbered jerseys, standard shorts.  No jewelry or hair beads can be worn during the games, long hair must be pulled back (pony tail).
  15.  Free throws – the shooter has the option to shoot from the foul line or from 12 feet.
  16. Mandatory play rule:  all players in good standing that show up for the game, must play.  This is a developmental league, in order to learn they must play.  Each player must play a minimum of one quarter.
  17.  Women’s / Youth basketball size 28.5 is used for all games.
  18.  Teams must gather at half court for prayer prior to the start of each game.
