Varsity Girls League Rules
RULES: National Federation rules apply with the following exceptions (***Clarification: Free throws - lane players can leave their spot on the release.):
a. Once a team is up more than 20 points the clock (running clock) will run, only stopping for Ft’s & timeouts.
Coaches are required to have at least the player’s names in the book (if number isn’t known) to avoid an administrative technical foul.
Seven (7) Minute Quarters. Clock will stop for free throws & timeouts only until the final minute of each quarter. Then it will stop on all whistles.
Overtime Period is three (3) minutes with the clock stopping on all whistles under 1 minute.
3 Full & 2 – 30 sec. timeouts per game.
NOTE: During an overtime period, each team gets an additional full time-out along with any remaining timeouts from regulation!.
Once a team is ahead by 20 points, they may not press the other team: they must retreat to inside the 3 point line until the lead is below 20 points! Once the ball is shot, the defensive team can leave and pursue the rebound anywhere.
RULE CHANGE: Teams will shoot two free throws for common fouls when in the “bonus.” This change to Rule 4-8-1 eliminates the one-and-one scenario and sets new foul limits each quarter for awarding the bonus free throw. In addition to awarding two foul shots for all common fouls, teams will reach the bonus when their opponent commits five fouls in each quarter and team fouls will reset at the end of each quarter. This eliminates the one-and-one for common fouls beginning with the seventh team foul in the half and establishes the bonus as two free throws awarded for a common foul beginning with the team’s fifth foul in each quarter and resets the fouls at the end of each quarter.
Players can enter the lane on the release (do not have to wait for the ball to hit the rim), unless they are outside the 3 point line – in that instance the players have to wait.
Seat Belt Rule: Only Head Coach may stand. You may have two assistant coaches on bench that must remains seated as well as all athletes
Uniforms-all participants are to be properly uniformed with numbered jerseys and standard uniform shorts. No jewelry or hair beads can be worn during the games. If an athlete is found to be improperly uniformed by the start of a game the head official, that athlete will be ineligible to play in the game and will not be allowed to sit on nor near the beam bench. Failure to comply with this rule will result in a forfeit by the violating team
Lateness: the following policy shall govern teams who are late for a game or event.
A fifteen (15) minute grace period is granted to all teams. At the conclusion of this time, the head official may forfeit the game. At which time, the forfeiting team will be held responsible for the entire amount of officials’ fees. A team with a requisite number of players is not entitled to the forfeit time. ***A team may start with 4 players.
Safety-Every team in CYO program is required to carry a first aid kit; home team should have one available at all times.
Only rostered players and coaches on the bench. No parents permitted on your bench.
Both coaches and players will meet at half court prior to the start of the game for prayer!
Women's/ youth basketball size 28.5 is used for all games.
Sportsmanship
Coaches are urged to stress sportsmanship and self-control to both teams’ players and fans. Constant ‘second guessing’ of officials by the coaches and fans only detracts from the spirit and purpose of CYO. These unsportsmanlike actions on the part of a coach or fan encourage disrespect for officials and poor-looser traits in the players, and can incur penalties to the team. At CYO games, coaches are considered responsible for the action of his/her team’s fans. Repeated complaints of unsportsmanlie conduct received by the Commissioners may result in penalties meted out by the Regional Boards through the regional Coordinators.
All complaints must be submitted to the Commissioner in writing by e-mail.
