Brooks Kirkland scampers for some of his 96 yards on the night. Trailing 10-0 after 2 quarters, the Bulldogs come out the 2nd half and scored on the 4th play of scrimmage as Brooks ran for a 42 yard TD to make the score 10-7. The Hornets led at halftime behind the arm of QB Tate O'Conner and his stickem hands receivers and the foot of Pindar with a 37 yard field goal. The young Bulldogs showed maturity never getting down and never getting up. ECI had 2 long drives the 2nd half, one resulting in a TD and another 90 yard drive that ended with a fumble inside the 5 yard line. With 3 min to play the Bulldogs were forced to punt from inside their own 10 yard line, instead of letting the ball roll dead, the Hornet punt returner fielded the ball and fumbled while being tackled around mid field. With the first defeat in 3 years in the regular season staring them in the face, the young line opened holes and passed blocked for Ealey, Moody, Kirkland and Robinson. From the 3 yardline Robinson called his own number on a draw and looked to break the plane, but fumbled in the endzone, where the ball was recovered for a Bulldog TD with 50 seconds to play. The Hornets short passed to the 30 yard line, where they were stopped with a sack, and with the clock running down Hornet QB spiked the ball on 4th down with .3 seconds left where the Bulldogs took over and kneeled for a hard fought victory. The Bulldogs had 204 rushing yards and 51 passing for an un-official total of 255 yards. The Bulldogs again travel to Savannah next Friday to take on the Savannah Christian Red Raiders who will have revenge on their minds after losing in the last minutes of last year's game 28-21.
This will be a match up of 2 top 10 teams and may determine head to head seeding after the cross over games as was the case in 2008 with ECI the #1 seed from region 3A.
