Recently we received an email expressing condolences and plans of a young boy making his commitment to the Tyler McLellan Foundation as part of his Bar Mitzvah Project. Tyler Streim, a thirteen year old from Long Island, New York has chosen The Tyler McLellan Foundation of Wellington, Florida as his Bar Mitzvah Project recipient.

Two years ago while Tyler and his family were visiting his grandparents in Wellington, Florida his mom saw an advertisement for an event the foundation was holding.  At that time, she took a picture of the flyer as something she would look at later for more information on the organization.  Two years later we received an email from the mom stating her son’s decision.

When I called to speak to Tyler, I first spoke to his dad and he also told me the story of how they came in contact with our organization.  As he was speaking, it just put a lump in my throat and my eyes started to well up, this was two years ago these folks saw the flyer!

Tyler is a thirteen year old eighth grader who enjoys sports and says his favorite subjects in school are math and science. While keeping up with his school work, he is a very sport active kid playing on travel teams, park and recreation, along with school teams playing football, basketball and he also runs cross country. When asked why he chose TMF, Tyler said: “I am very lucky to be able to participate in a variety of sports and I want other kids less fortunate to have the same opportunity with the cost of equipment and registrations, I just want to help other kids”.

As part of his Bar Mitzvah project, Tyler will be accepting monetary donations from his family, friends, teammates, classmates and anyone who believes in what he is doing to help keep kids in youth sports.

If you would like to help Tyler in his efforts, a monetary donation can be made thru PayPal at www.tylermclellanfoundation.org  listing “LI Tyler” in the Contributor Box or call: 561/215-3717

NOTE: According to Jewish law, when Jewish boys become 13 years old, they become accountable for their actions and become a bar mitzvah. Prior to reaching bar mitzvah age, the child's parents hold the responsibility for the child's actions. After this age, the boys bear their own responsibility for Jewish ritual law, tradition, and ethics, and are able to participate in all areas of Jewish community life

NOTE: The Tyler McLellan Foundation was started after the McLellan’s lost their 15-year old son in an “Angel Flight” plane crash in Tampa on July 17, 2008.  The foundation is geared towards rewarding perseverance and not allowing a family’s finances to hold players back.
