The Oakville Seals Novice Hockey Club continued their high-scoring ways this past weekend as they split two games. The Seals hosted Elm Creek Lightning on Saturday and rode the emotions of the home crowd to a 10-4 triumph before making the trek to Portage to face off against high-powered Portage Novice 1 Terriers on Sunday. Sunday's 12-8 loss was highlighted by a goal from Kirby "AP" Vince and the gutsy efforts of the Seals who kept the score close despite being short-staffed.

Saturday's home-opener saw a record crowd on hand at the Oakville Arena, as evidenced by the $78 50/50 pot. The Seals treated the home crowd to a display of precise passing and relentless checking to take apart the Lightning. Cam Sarna's three goals and an assist paced the home team's attack with Christopher Topfer ripping a pair of goals as well. Jack Holmes, Colby Nikkel and Tristan Blight all had two assists and Maddox Shindle scored five times and picked up one helper. Jackson Lee was solid in goal for the Seals making several big saves in the early going as the team worked through their home-opener nerves. Seanna Nikkel was a welcome addition to the club in her debut and Taylor Klaassen continued to hustle and create chances for her linemates.

Sunday was a much different game for the Seals who were missing three regulars from their lineup. Ashlen Pierrepont and Vince were called up from the farm team and played solid games for the Big Red Machine but the duo of Carson Inman and Kade Maryniuk proved to be too much for the short-staffed Seals to overcome as they each bulged the twine four times. Sarna potted a pair for the Seals who got singles from Vince and Holmes. Shindle added four in the third period to help keep the score close. Topfer was in between the pipes for the Seals and slammed the door shut on several breakaways late in the game to give the Seals a chance while Blight, Klaassen and the Nikkel twins were aggressive on the forecheck all game and provided the Seals with a lift in the second period with their spirited play.

Next action for the Seals is Sunday, November 9 when St. Eustache visits the Oakville Arena at noon.
