The juggernaut that is the Oakville Seals continued to steamrool their way through the ranks of Manitoba's Novice teams with a pair of road wins over the weekend. A 6-2 decision over Portage Terriers #2 on Saturday was followed up by a 5-2 win over the first-place Gladstone Lakers on Sunday afternoon. The team played remarkable defense over the course of the two games, getting excellent contributions from every player on the roster and overcoming the absence of Christopher Topfer.
Saturday's big win at the BDO Centre for the Community was keyed by a hat-trick from Cam Sarna and a strong performance in goal from Daehan Butler. The Seals played a sound defensive game keeping the Terriers hemmed into their own zone for much of the game and using their fresh legs to create a number of good scoring chances on star goalie Maysen Mazurat. Jack Holmes, Colby Nikkel and Maddox Shindle each bulged the twine for the guests who got strong efforts from Seanna Nikkel and Andrew Buchanan in the win.
Gladstone was the site of Sunday's big showdown for the Seals as they tried to stop Gladstone from improving on their 5-0-1 record in CPNHL play. Jackson Lee got the nod in goal for the BIG RED MACHINE and played an outstanding game, including a sensational glove save on a third period Lakers breakaway. Tristan Blight played one of his best games of the year for Oakville, anchoring the "Bruise Brothers" line with Buchanan. Buchanan played his usual robust game and found time to add an assist, making a nice pass to Shindle after a great hustle play in the corner. Sarna had another goal for the Seals and Shindle added a pair, while Holmes scored on two spectacular end-to-end rushes and was a force all afternoon. Taylor Klaassen was unlucky not to score, firing a handful of chances just wide of the mark. The win moved the Seals to 4-1-1 on the CPNHL season and left them within striking distance of the first-place Lakers.
