Amazons win game 1 by a score of 2-0

Tonight was the start of the 2016-2017 AJFHL playoffs and the Amazons would face off against their division rivals the Lethbridge Jr Eagles. Tonight's game was a fast and exciting game as both teams exchanged chances at each end. The Amazons PP which has been on fire lately struck again and was a undoing of the Jr Eagles in tonights 2-0 win. 

 

The first period was an excellent showcase of speed and talent, neither team gave up significant chances and the shot total was 8 apiece. The refing was also quite excellence for a change and the on-ice officials truely let the girls decide the outcome of the game. 

 

In the second period the Amazons would get on the board. At 12:45 Malsbury would score off of a one-time pass from Sarah Botter and gave the Amazons a 1-0 lead. The patiences showed by Botter on the PP was incredible as Botter worked the puck back and forth with Scollo. Once Emma saw the opening in the high slot she skated for the open ice and Botter connected with a great pass. Maslbury made no mistake and burried the shot. 

 

The Amazons would kill all three penalties in the second period and were perfect on the PK. All together there was only 5 penalties called all game. In the second period the Amazons outshot the Jr Eagles 12-8.

 

In the third period the Amazons came out and continued to press the Jr Eagles. The Amazons had multiple quality scoring chances but just couldn't burry the puck. The Jr Eagles would also have their share of opportunities but Bartlett shut the door. With time winding down. Malsbury would give the Amazons the insurance marker they needed to capture the win. Malsbury followed up a play and picked up a rebound off of the Jr Eagles goalie and burried her second of the game to make the score 2-0. With just 0:50 seconds left in the game the Jr Eagles pulled their goalie but the Amazons held strong. Ashley Keith had an opportunity for an EN goal but the Jr Eagle defender was able to collect the puck out of harms way. 

 

Nisa Bartlett would record the shutout with a 27 save performance. 

 

Saturday Feb 25th is game #2 at the Penhold Multiplex Arena. Game time is 3:45pm! The Amazons will need all of your supprt as they try to close out the series vs the Jr Eagles!!!
