Amazons sweep Jr Eagles with 4-1 win
2/25/2017by Team Release

The Amazons were looking for the 2 game sweep and were rewarded with a 4-1 win today. The game started off a little sloppy for both teams, the Amazons who didn't get back home untill 2am and the Jr Eagles were trying to find their legs after a 3 1/2 hour road trip to Penhold. Neither team really gave up much in the 1st and in the shots department the Jr Eagles had a slight edge with the shots being 13-12.

In the second period the Amazons would find the back of the net. Scollo would take a snap shot from the point which the Jr Eagle goalie made the save on, there was a rebound and Sarah Kendall pounced on the rebound to give the Amazons a 1-0 lead. At 13:54 of the second period the Amazons would strike again, Laura Simpson would snap a quick wrist shot on net and Captain Emma Malsbury would deflect the puck past Holtorf of the Jr Eagles to increase the lead to 2 and make the score 2-0. The goal was Malsbury's third of the playoffs. At 5:16 of the 2nd period the Amazons would increase their lead. LaShawn Vick would pick up a loose puck in the neutral zone and streak down the wing, she let a shot go and once again the Jr Eagle goalie left out  a big rebound. Scollo would shove the puck into the net to give the Amazons a 3-0 lead. The Amazons would outshoot the Jr Eagles 16-8 in the second period.

Heading into the 3rd period with a 3 goal lead the Amazons knew they needed to play disicplined hockey and continue to press the Jr Eagles. That continued pressure would pay off as Andrea Loewen would score off of a faceoff win from Scollo. Andrea would let a slapshot go from the point and beat the Jr Eagles goalie through the 5-hole. The Amazons were now in command with a 4-0 lead. The Jr Eagles would muster some offense though as the Amazons had a defensive breakdown in the Jr Eagles zone. The Jr Eagles would connect on a stretch pass and as they came in on the 2-on-1. The Jr Eagles took a shot on net and they connected on the rebound to cut the lead to 3 with just 12:12 remaining in the third period.

The Amazons continued to play solid defense and didn't give up any more scoring chances and clinched the series with the 4-1 victory. The Amazons would again outshoot the Jr Eagles 15-9 in the third period. Nisa again was up to the task as she turned asside 29/30 shots in the game and 56/57 shots in the series.

Maslbury currently has 3 playoffs goals with Scollo, Kendall and Loewen having singles in the series. The Amazons will now rest up and prepare for next weekend. They will face the winner of the 1# Titans &  #4 Chaos for the South Division Championship. The Chaos currently hold a 1-0 series lead as they beat the Titan's 2-0 in their game earlier today.
