The Amazons opened the 2016-2017 AJFHL League Championships at home today. Unfortunately they did not get the results they were looking for and ended up dropping the opening decision 3-0 and are down 1-0 in the series. 

Sherwood Park would get all of their work finished in the 1st period. At 16:13 #55 Koshy would drive wide in the Amazons zone and take a shot on net. She would pick up her own rebound and burried the goal to give the Steele a 1-0 lead. The Amazons generated some great scoring chances early in the period but the Steele netminder was up to the task. 

Just after the Steele had scored their opening goal, there would be a scramble infront of the Amazons net. With Bartlett down after making the first save, she stretched out with her paddle and stole a goal from the Steele to keep the score 1-0. 

At 4:54 the Steele would score on a PP, the puck would be won back to the point and #3 Sorensen of the Steele would take a shot and would be deflect off a stick and in the net. The score was now 2-0 for the Steele. 

Barely a minute later the Steele would strike again to make the game 3-0. 

The Amazons had several chances throughout the game to score goals and cut into the Steele lead but just couldn't get the job done. The team will now reset for tomorrow for game #2 vs the Steele. Game time is 5:30pm in Penhold.
