3/24/2017by Team Release

The Amazons drop a heart breaking triple OT 4-3 game as they peppered Chloe Sanderson with 56 shots. The Amazons did everything they could to try and solve Sanderson but just couldn't find the back of the net.

In the first period the Amazons would strike on the PP. Botter would feed Simpson who would then make a quick pass to Scollo. Scollo fired a quick shot on net to give the Amazons a 1-0 lead at 11:05 of the first period. The Amazons would keep up the pressure and fired 12 shots on Chloe but she shut the door. Nisa stopped all 5 shots she faced. The the Amazons would get into some penalty trouble in the first period. The Amazons killed off all 3 penalties and including 2 four minute penalties.

The Amazons would get on the board early in the 2nd period as Kendall would make an excellent move just in front of Sanderson and she out waited Chloe and flipped a back hand in the net to give the Amazons a 2-0 lead. At 8:00 the Steele would get on the board as Yakimets for the Steele would deflect a shot in the high slot and cut the Amazons lead to one. The score was now 2-1. The Steele outshot the Amazons 10-5  in the second period.

Early in the third the Steele would tie game. Perneel would be left all alone in front of the net and stuffed in a rebound to tie the game, 2-2. At 9:12 of the third period the Steele would score again off of a tip in front of the net to take their first lead of the game and make the score 3-2. Just a few minutes later the Amazons would tie the game off of an amazing effort by Botter. Sarah would pick up the puck just inside the Steele blue line and deke around 3 players before tucking in a backhander just under Chloe's blocker to make the score 3-3. Nisa would stop 10 of 12 shots in the third. This was the first time the Amazons would play in a playoff OT this post season.

For the next two periods the Amazons would have multiple opportunities to end the game but either hit the post or Chloe would make a game saving stop to give the Steele a chance. With the third OT period underway the Amazons were under pressure from the Steele. The Steele would work the puck back to the point and take a shot on net which would be deflected past Nisa for they game winning goal. The game was the longest AJFHL playoff game in league history as its total time was 92:39.

Game #4 is Saturday at 6:00pm at the Sherwood Park Shell Arena!
