The Amazons were looking to rebound after Fridays epic triple OT game and tie up the series in Sherwood Park. The Amazons would get a fast start but were unable to hold the lead as the final score was 3-2 for the Steele.
Just :22 seconds into the 1st period the Amazons would get on the board. #20 Drewry would burry a rebound from linemate Kendall to open to scoreing and give the Amazons a 1-0 lead. Just under 13 minutes of the 1st the Steele would reply as Runnalis of the Steele would score on the PP to tie the game at 12:51 of the 1st. Kresic was completely screened and had no chance of stopping the puck. The Amazons though would retake the lead late in the period as #21 Botter would score off of a passing play from Simpson and Kendall. Botter would finish the play and give the Amazons their second lead of the game and made the score 2-1. The Amazons outshot the Steele 16-8 in the opening period and were looking to tie the series up.
In the second period though the Amazons would get into some penalty trouble and needed to kill off 3 consecutive penalties. The Amazons were successful in killing all of the penalties and got a late PP with 1:07 left in the second period. The Steele would outshoot the Amazons 11-4 in the second period.
The third period would start and the Amazons started the period on the PP and built up some momentum but were unable to capitalize on their PP opportunity. At 12:42 of the 3rd the Steele would tie the game up off of an individual effort from Koshy and picked up a turn over at the Amazons blue line. Koshy would skate in uncontested and slide the puck between Kresics legs to tie the game at 2-2.
With time winding down the Amazons would get called for a penalty and the Steele would strike again. At 9:54 of the 3rd, Paige Peach would redirect a point shot past Kresic to give the Steele their 1st least of the game and make the score 3-2.
Unfortunatetly there would be no comeback for the Amazons as the Steele would hang on to win their first AJFHL Championship in program history. It is also the North Divisions 5th consecutive AJFHL championship as the last South Division team to win was the Lethbridge Jr Eagles in 2011-2012.
The Amazons will gather one last time as a team next weekend for a year end get together. On Wednesday a season review will be posted on the website so look forward to that release!
