Headrick Flirts With Perfection As Comets Claim Regional Crown
6/9/2016

(5/21)  Senior lefty Brent Headrick carried a perfect game into the seventh inning in leading the Reed-Custer Comets to 3-1 victory over Kankakee Bishop McNamara at Comet Park on Saturday.

Headrick was brilliant for the first six innings, retiring all 18 batters, including six by strike out.  Unfortunately, the first pitch to Irish centerfielder, Dylan Post, leading off the seventh inning was deposited over the right field fence for a home run.  Headrick would come back and strike out the next Irish hitter, before the next two hitters would reach with singles.  Headrick promptly picked off a runner and fanned the final Irish hitter he would face to give the Comets their first Regional crown since 2007.

Headrick (8-1) finished with 8 strike outs and 0 walks.

R-C got all the runs it would need in the third inning.  With one out, Neil O'Donnell singled.  Jordan Walden followed with a single, sending O'Donnell to third.  Hunter Murawski followed with an RBI single and took second on the throw to the plate.  With runners at second and third, Eddie Wilkins drilled a single down the third base line, scoring Walden and Murawski.

Murawski would finish the day with 2 hits to lead the offensive attack.  The Comets had 7 hits in the ballgame.

R-C moves on to Seneca Sectional play on Wednesday, May 25th at 4:30 PM.  The Comets (24-5) will take on Illiana Christian.
