(5/25)  The Reed-Custer Comets opened Seneca IHSA Sectional round play in impressive fashion taking down Illiana Christian 7-3 on Wednesday.

The Comet offense bashed 12 hits against 3 Viking pitchers.  Junior Eddie Wilkins had a big day, going 3 for 3, including a double and 2 run homer.  Neil O'Donnell had 3 hits, including a double and 2 RBIs.  Jordan Walden and Josh Loomis each had 2 hits.  Loomis knocked in a run.

Travis Schoonover got the scoring started with a  run scoring triple in the third inning after Josh Loomis had singled. Schoonover came home on an infield ground out by O'Donnell.  After a walk to Jordan Walden, Wilkins hit a long homer to left onto the railroad tracks to give the Comets a 4-0 lead.

After Illiana Christian scored once in the third and twice in the fourth to make the score 4-3, R-C would add two more runs of their own in the fifth.  Justin Weitzel was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning.  Dan Fierro bunted him to second.  Freshman Josh Loomis drove a sharp single to center, driving home Weitzel, while Loomis took second on the throw to the plate.  Loomis later scored on O'Donnell's two out single to left.

The Comets would add a single tally in the sixth when Hunter Murawski singled and later scored on an error by the IC shortstop.

After giving up 2 runs in the fourth, Headrick (9-1) switched to another gear retiring 9 of the next 10 hitters, five by strike out.  The big lefty ended with 11 strike outs and 1 walk.  He gave up 3 earned runs on 7 hits.

Reed-Custer (25-5) moves into the championship game vs. Peru St. Bede, who defeated Beecher 11-0 in the other semifinal matchup.  The championship game is set for Saturday, May 28th at 11:00 AM.
