SSSF stuffs the competition!
November 26, 2009

SSSF had another unbelievable showing and went 5-1 last night at the Braintree Sheraton for AFO's Thanksgiving Massacre Show.
The night started off slow for SSSF as Eric Sarno lost in their first match of the night. Eric showed a ton of heart and courage taking the fight (Which was his first) on only a couple of hours notice but unfortunately, as could be expected, cardio caught up with him. He started out real strong winning the first round but at the beginning of round 2, a noticeably gassed Eric, was taking unanswered strikes on the ground as the ref stepped in. Official result: Loss - Eric Sarno by TKO due to strikes at 1:35 of round 2.
The second fight for SSSF featured Paddy Thompson who is currently the AFO's 170lb champion. On this night Pat was not defending his belt and was fighting at 165lbs in an attempt to make a run at the 155lb division. As the bell rang Pat immediately shot in for a take-down but was reversed and found himself in a deep rear naked choke. The entire round was spent in this position as Pat valiantly fought off the choke which on a couple of occasion looked like it would be impossible to do. In a move that left the entire crowd scratching their heads, Pat's opponent did not answer the bell to start the second round, essentially quitting after a round in which he clearly won. Official result: Win - Pat Thompson by TKO via opponent not answering the bell for round 2.
Next up was SSSF's Mike Malvesti who was making his cage debut. As round 1 opened Mike sprinted across the cage slamming his opponent to the canvas. He quickly moved to mount and pounded away until the ref stopped the fight. Official result: Win - Mike Malvesti by TKO due to strike at 1:11 of round 1.
SSSF's Michael Polvere followed up Malvesti's dominating performance with one of his own. Polvere rocked his opponent during the opening exchange and as his opponent shot to avoid the stand-up, Polvere sunk in an arm-in guillotine. Official result: Win - Michael Polvere by Tapout via arm-in guillotine at :43 of round 1.
Rounding out the group of Mikes fighting from SSSF was Mike Marchione. After a quick opening kick, Mike immediately took his opponents back as they went to the canvas. To quote head instructor Bill Mahoney, "Mike looked like a better looking Marcello Garcia the way he took hooks." Afterwards, Mike smoothly transitioned to mount and ground and pounded for a bit before eventually taking his back once again sinking in the rear naked choke. Official result: Win - Mike Marchione by Tapout via rear naked choke at 2:04 of round 1.
SSSF's final showing of the night featured a rubber match between SSSF's Ryan White and Dragon Lairs Nelson Gaipo. To open the round Ryan was caught with a head kick and on his way down was hit with a separate illegal kick to the face which stopped the action due to the foul. Ryan recovered immediately and when the action started back up, took his opponent down and worked some ground and pound for the duration of round 1. Round 2 featured some fireworks as both guys unloaded in the stand-up game, which Ryan clearly got the better of, and ended when Ryan pinned his opponent down against the cage raining down unanswered strikes. Official result: Win - Ryan White by TKO due to strike at 4:01 of round 2.
