About the Central Alberta Amazons

The Central Alberta Amazons were established in 2009-2010 as a founding member of the Alberta Junior Female Hockey League. The Amazon name dates back 74 years and pays respect to the original Amazons of Vancouver who were formed in the 1920's. The Amazons were owned by Frank Patrick who also owned the Vanvouver Millionairs. In 1933 the Vancouver Amazons relocated to Red Deer and would go on to win back-to-back Alpine Cups in 1933-1934 and 1934-1935.

The Banff Winter Carnival women’s ice hockey tournament was an ice hockey tournament played in Banff, Alberta, Canada. In the early years, it was contested to determine the women’s ice hockey provincial champions of Alberta. In later years, the winner would be awarded the Alpine Cup.

74 years later in 2009, the Amazons would be revived and would start play in the Alberta Junior Female Hockey League. The Amazons have continued with excellence with one (1) AJFHL Championship in 2010-2011, four (4) South Division Championships in 10/11,12/13,13/14 & 16/17 and five (5) consecutive South Division Champion Series appearences from 2010-2015.
