The Kansas City Bulldogs were started as an 8 man team in 2007. Originally the team was going to be named the Independence Regulators, however, a fortuitous mistake for the Odessa Bulldogs led to a very good price on jerseys and the Independence Bulldogs were established. The team was led by owner Robbie Shepherd and Coached by the Danneman brothers Nate and Jake. The Bulldogs competed in the Central Plains Football League and were comprised of many former collegiate athletes and standout high school players. In their first year as a team they placed second in the league with only two losses both to the Sedalia Outlaws; once during the regular season and finally in the championship.
In 2008 the Bulldogs were helmed by a new ownership group, Gabe and Julie Frank, the coaching staff remained the same. The composition of the team changed very little and the Bulldogs would once again finish in 2nd place.
was a bit of a rebuilding season as the Bulldogs had to find new coaches and also replace several players at key positions. The Bulldogs recruited heavily from the local semi pro scene and found many players who were looking for a change. The team was led by Head Coach Zach Danner, the Bulldogs would finish 6-5 and have an early exit from the playoffs this year.
was a continuation of the previous season, with the organization building on the past successes and cutting out the things that did not work. The only major change for 2010 was a new head coach in Oliver Hester and the Bulldogs changing from the Independence Bulldogs to the Kansas City Bulldogs. The Bulldogs made it to the semi finals this season and were knocked out of the playoffs by eventual champions the Junction City Force.
saw no major changes. Once again the Bulldogs were knocked out by eventual champions the Junction City Force.
the team had to find a new head coach yet again, this time they turned to newcomer Kel Dansby, He led the Bulldogs with one of the most explosive offenses they had ever had averaging 68 points a game and being the first team to drop a 100 point game on another team in league history. The Bulldogs would once again come up short to the Junction City Force in the semi finals.
this is the year that changed everything, due to a job opportunity Coach Kel had moved on and the Bulldogs were once again looking to for a new head coach, this time they turned to former player Dan Ascheman, the team suffered a big loss during their opener, but this gave the players more resolve to play harder, the Bulldogs would lose a couple more times during the season causing a mid season coaching change. The Bulldogs found their identity shortly before the playoffs and made an incredible run beating every team that had beaten them in the regular season to become the 2013 CPFL Champions.
would be the last year the Bulldogs would compete in the CPFL, they continued the domination train and went undefeated in the regular season until the championship game, the Bulldogs lost a heartbreaker to the 4-State Fusion, the Bulldogs knew they had bigger and better things in the works though as the owners decided it was time to step up to the big leagues.
the owners expanded their group to include Tyrone Groves, Tyrone, Gabe, and Julie had a vision to bring the best of the best to the Bulldogs and continue the winning tradition, this started with recruiting, and recruit they did. The first order of business was to find a head coach, it was decided that veteran Shawn Macbrayer would be brought on to run the show, defensively the Bulldogs would bring on Tyreece Whyte. Being their first year in 11 man, the Bulldogs found it difficult to find opponents, they had joined the Midwest Football Alliance which allows teams to set up outside games to fill their schedules out. The Bulldogs went out with 1 mission, win everything, they would ultimately come up 3 points short in the championship, but the gauntlet had been laid down.
brought additional coaches into the mix adding to an already impressive staff, the Bulldogs would continue with their winning ways as this time they would go on to win it all in the 2016 MFA Championship.
was a bit of a shakeup as there was lots of interest in the team. There were some growing pains as the Bulldogs took their first steps into the larger world of Semi Pro, with out of league games in Colorado and Minnesota. The Bulldogs were taken down a peg as they lost to Colorado and could never quite get their mojo going that season. The Bulldogs would lose in the semi final to the Des Moines Blaze. It was also the last season of ownership for Gabe and Julie as they gave Tyrone the full control of the team.
saw Ron Cherry named as head coach. He helped lead the team to some major wins over nationally ranked opponents. The Bulldogs would go on to win their 2nd MFA title.
was the culmination of dedication and hard work for the Kansas City Bulldogs. They once again were road warriors in a bid to play in the national championship in Daytona Beach Florida. They traveled to Wisconsin, Minnesota, Nebraska, Iowa, and played several nationally ranked opponents at home. The Bulldogs compiled a 13-1 overall record, their first back to back MFA title, and Kansas City’s first and only national title.
the world was struck by the COVID-19 pandemic, this forced us to cancel the 2020 season. With all of the 2019 staff coming back and a couple of new faces we were ready to defend our National Championship title.
