PENFIELD CHIEFS SUMMER BASEBALL FAQ
Who are we?
The Penfield Chiefs program is an elite program geared towards developing our young players to best be prepared at the next level of play. This is not a recreational team and is to be considered at the same level of the private organizations that travel all summer. We currently have 3 teams and in 2021 14U, 15U, and 17U.
Who are the coaches?
2021 Steve Newman- 17U Head Coach
2021 Will Kaufman- 15U Team Head Coach
2021 Sam Morollo- 14U Team Head Coach
Why did this program start?
I started this program 6 years ago because we were losing all of the best Penfield baseball players to private organizations such as Diamond Pro, Valle, Elite, etc. It is my belief that Penfield has so much baseball talent that we do not need to leave to join private teams in order to find the level of play best suited for our players. Therefore, the Penfield Chiefs was born. We started as just a 17U team, geared towards preparing the returning Juniors and the JV rosters to be ready for Varsity play next season.
Who is eligible to play?
17U - Deisgned to be Varsity Level of play
15U- Junior Varsity Level of Play
14/13U- Players in the Modified Levels.
***Roster sizes will be kept to a minimum to maximize playing time. That number will vary from year to year and the number of pitchers rostered. In order to compete in playoffs and tournaments, we need an ample amount of pitching for safety and competition reasons.***
Does this team help players get on school rosters?
No, the players on the Chiefs rosters must earn their way on to the school rosters. We have players who do not play Chiefs that are on school teams. We have had players on the Chiefs not return to play on the school rosters or get cut. Talent and Performance is the only thing that will determine your roster spot on a school team. We have had players register for our program and not make school rosters. Choosing to not continue with the summer program is your choice, but you will forfeit your registration fees.
How much does it cost to play? (This seasons Current Prices. Cost may change when current tournament prices comes out)
15U $1400 + 3% processing fee.
14U/13U $1400 + 3% processing fee.
We know this may seem expensive but we are very comparable to the other private organizations currently available. Again, these are estimated prices.
***NO REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN FOR ANY REASON***
What does my fee cover?
Your fee will cover everything from indoor training at the Black & White facility, league fees, tournament fees, field rental, equipment, & coaches.
How many games?
Each level will vary but a minimum of MCBR league games, playoffs for MCBR, and 2-4 tournaments @ 3-4 game minimums.
Where are the tournaments?
17U will travel the furthest. Ohio has been our longest trip.
Remaining teams will be discussed by their head coaches. There are some good tournaments right in our back yard and we do not feel the need to travel very far. Again, we are trying to keep costs reasonable and traveling further would increase the pricing.
Will this program allow my child to be scouted?
Yes, as with any tournament there are some scouts there. Mostly from local colleges in the area. There are some tournaments that have showcases attached to the fees, but we do not register for them.
Do you run/attend showcases?
Only if it is attached to a tournament fee.
Can you play multiple leagues/teams?
This will be dealt with as a case by case basis. We encourage all players to work and play in the program. We will have discussions with individual families about the situation.
