About the The Alamo City All-Stars

THE AMERICAN BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION (ABA) AND

THE ALAMO CITY ALL-STARS.

The Alamo City All-Stars are a men's professional basketball team playing in the ABA (American Basketball Association) League.  The ABA has been around for over 50 years and the current San Antonio Spurs got their start in this league before it mergered with the NBA.

The All-Stars are owned and operated by the VSJ Ballers, LLC, and bring a wealth of talent and experience to the organization.

The Alamo City All-Stars were formerly known as the Tri-City All-Stars.  Recently, the name was changed to reflect the additional market area, the entire San Antonio region, that we represent more accurately. The All-Stars started playing in the Fall of 2018.  We are excited to be playing in San Antonio and will provide a good, family-friendly, but affordable sporting experience.  The action is fun and exciting, and a good time is always had by all!

Our goal each game will be to involve as many people from the community as possible in a variety of roles.  Our platform will allow other organizations and individuals to showcase their talent and skills before and during the game.

Stay tuned for further updates, as we are committed to partnering with local businesses within the Alamo City All-Stars regional community!

The Alamo City All-Stars are a part of the American Basketball Association (ABA) which is a men’s professional basketball league.  The ABA was established in 1967 and merged with the National Basketball Association (NBA) in 1976 (New Jersey Nets, San Antonio Spurs, Indiana Pacers and Denver Nuggets).

In 2000, Joe Newman and Richard P. Tinkham reformed the original ABA league in partnership with the NBA, after it had merged with the NBA in 1976.   The NBA and ABA have been operating in harmony for the past 17 years. Tinkham co-founded both the original ABA and the Indiana Pacers. Joe Newman was the CEO of Joe Newman Advertising, Inc. and Alliance Broadcasting Group, Inc.

Today, the ABA is operating in the United States, Mexico, Australia and soon to be Europe.  This year also marked the successful inaugural season of the WABA which is the women's league within the ABA.  The league has since grown to become the largest professional sports league in the world!

Some of the more notable ABA players that went on to become stars within the NBA are: Julius Irving (Dr. J), George Gervin (The Iceman), Ricky Barry, Moses Malone along with our very own Head Coach San Antonio Spurs Legend, Johnny "00" Moore!

ABA GAME RULES

  • The ABA season runs from November through April (including playoffs).
  • Teams are community driven, with a strong focus on giving back to their communities.
  • The ABA has unique rules which allow for faster pace games leading to higher scoring and more exciting events.
    • Guard driven league results in 48 minutes of high paced action

    • When the 3D Light is on: 2 pt. shots = 3 pts. | 3 pt. shots = 4 pts. | a half-court shot = 5 pts.
  • The ABA is divided up into 8 Regions. Each team must play a minimum of 12 games within their region and a minimum of 16 games total to be eligible for the ABA Playoffs.
