About Walled Lake Western Boys Lacrosse - 16 years
In the fall of 2008, Kyle Kroswek then a junior at WLW wanted to form a lacrosse team. He organized a group of Western students who were playing lacrosse at WL Northern and WL Central. Brenda Kroswek came the Team Manager and hired Mark White as Head Coach and Brandon Trivax as Assistant Head Coach. The team first met in November 2008 at Meadowbrook Elementary with 12 players.
When the 2009 season began, the team had 23 players. The Warriors won their first game on opening day 3-2 against Huron Valley with freshmen Alex Buchanan scoring the game winning goal. Another highlight of the first season was a 7-6 2OT game against West Bloomfield at Warrior Field.
2010 was a difficult season. The Warriors lost 4 close games including an season opening 7-5 loss at WLC.
In 2011, the Warriors won three games and lost in the playoffs to Bishop Foley 12-8. Senior Josh Sperling was named to the Academic All-American team, WLWestern's only player ever achieving that prestigious award.
2012 the Warriors won 5 games including a playoff victory 7-5 over arch rival WL Northern. The Warriors lost a heartbreaker in the second round 11-9 at Bishop Foley.
2013 the Warriors won 6 games and earned a home playoff game against Grosse Pointe North. The Warriors lost a tough 7-5 to the Norsemen.
2014 the Warriors opened the season with a 16-0 shutout over Grosse Ile. All State Senior goalie Michael Schinker earned the program's first shutout. The Warriors earned a home playoff game versus North Farmington. The Warriors won 10-9 but lost in second round to the eventual State Champions Detroit Country Day.
2015 Adam Mazzara was named Head Coach after Coach White's retirement. The Warriors won 6 games and earned a home playoff game versus Avondale. The Warriors beat Avondale 13-3 and lost in second round to OL St. Mary's.
2016 Paul Roltsch was named Head Coach after running the JV program under Adam Mazzara in 2015. In 2016, Paul was helped by Chris Roltsch with Varsity and Marco Iaderosa and David Bahling on JV. The Varsity team went 6-10 beating Avondale in the preliminary round 13-8 and then losing in the next round to Cranbrook.
2017 The year didn't go exactly as planned - an early change in JV Leadership had Paul Roltsch assisting with JV for the season. This year we made some changes to the coaching staff - moving Marco Iaderosa and David Bahling up to Varsity and hiring Dale Nordstrom as the JV Coach.
2018 10th Anniversary year - This year the coaching staff will be Chris Roltsch as Varsity Coach and Marco Iaderosa/David Bahling as Varsity assistants. Dale Nordstrom will return as the JV Coach.
2019 Coaching staff this year will be Jacob Schiavi as the Varsity Coach and Nevin Kanner will be the JV Coach.
2020 will be returning Jacob Schiavi as the Varsity Coach and Nevin Kanner will be the JV Coach.
