Royals Rally Late, Win 8-4
After spotting the Blitzkrieg 4 runs in the top of the 2nd, the Royals offense decided to take most of the day off. But in the bottom of the 8th, rookie Daniel Kahn would start the rally, and rookie Eric Walbridge would finish it, with the Royals hitting for the cycle in the inning and taking home an 8-4 win over a surprisingly tough Blitzkrieg squad.
Mike Miller took the mound in the 104 degree heat, working a quiet first inning.
The Royals loaded the bases in the first, but the Blitzkrieg got out of it without allowing any runs.
Blitzkrieg scored one and loaded the bases against Miller in the 2nd, and Brett Kahanowitch came in to stop the bleeding. Unfortunately, an error in the infield kept the inning alive, and after all was said and done, the score was 4-0 Blitzkrieg.
All was quiet the next few frames, as both pitchers were getting in and out of trouble - Kahanowitch struck out 7 of the first 12 batters he faced, while the Royals went 1-2-3 in back to back innings.
The Royals offense finally woke up in the bottom of the 4th. Brett Kahanowitch led off with a double to shallow right. Stephan Ohayon singled him to third, and Eric Walbridge walked to load the bases. Ric Valdez grounded out to first, plating one, followed by a Zach Sloane rbi-single. Mike Miller followed by having an extra-base hit stolen by a great diving catch in left, but took a sac fly instead. After 4, the Blitzkrieg still led 4-3.
The Royals defense was strong all day, and they answered with some glove work of their own. With no outs in the top of the 5th and a man on first, David LeBreche caught a sinking line drive in right, firing to first baseman Miller for the ever-common 9-3 double play. After that, Kahanowitch would hold the Blitzkrieg to 3 baserunners the rest of the way, striking out 5 of the final 15 hitters he faced.
Heading into the bottom of the 8th and still trailing 4-3, the Royals sent up pinch hitter Daniel Kahn, who worked a walk. Armando Mesa followed with a walk of his own, and Brett Kahanowitch took matters into his own hands, tying the game with an rbi-single. Stephan Ohayon skied a ball to deep right center for a triple, giving the Royals their first lead all day. After a pitching change, Eric Walbridge lined the second pitch he saw out of left for a 2-run home run, giving the Royals an 8-4 lead. Mike Miller doubled with 2 outs (completing the team cycle for the inning), but was stranded at 2nd base.
As everyone was exhausted from the heat, the Royals defense allowed a single baserunner in the 9th, so Kahanowitch was forced to strike out the final batter with a man on third, preserving his 8 innings of 0 run relief and capping off his best pitching performance as a Royal.
Congrats to the Blitzkrieg for a great game - after both teams combined to score 42 runs in week 1, who knew this game would be 4-3 for the first 2 1/2 hours!
Finally, congrats to Eric Walbridge on his Royal debut, going 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk, scoring twice and knocking in 2 runs.

Royals Cage Ironbirds, Win 17-1
The Royals started their fall season where their summer left off, putting up 17 runs against the Ironbirds. Every Royal starter scored - in fact, the only player who didn't score had an rbi in his last plate appearance. A pair of rookies led the charge, with David LeBreche going 4-4 and Daniel Kahn throwing a 6-inning, 3-hit complete game.
With one out in the first, Stephan Ohayon singled to center. Brett Kahanowitch and Mike Miller walked to load the bases, and Michael Schofield brought home one with an rbi-ground out off the pticher.
Daniel Kahn strike out the first man he faced, working a 1-2-3 first.
With one out in the top of the 2nd, David LeBreche began his Royals career with a double to dead center. After Kahn walked, LeBreche swiped third and came home on an errant throw. Zach Sloane singled, with Kahn scoring on another error. Stephan Ohayon walked, and Brett Kahanowitch brought home 1 with a sac fly. Mike Miller singled home another, and after a Michael Schofield walk, both Mikes would move up 90-fett on a passed ball. Al Garcia singled home the pair, and score himself after Phil Acosta and LeBreche each singled. At the end of 2 1/2 innings, the Royals led 11-0.
The Ironbirds singled with 2 outs in the bottom of the 3rd to temporarily break Kahn's rhythm, but he'd strike out the next batter to get out of the inning unharmed.
Latecomer (and #10 on the Royals all-time games played list) Ryan Elliott walked with 1 out in the 4th. Zach Sloan walked, and after a Stephan Ohayon single, Brett Kahanowitch singled home Elliott to make it 12-0.
After an 11 pitch, 2 strikeout bottom of the 4th, the Royals were at it again in the 5th. Michael Schofield led off with a double to deep center. Phil Acosta walked, and David LeBreche was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and with 2 outs, another latecomer - Dennis King II - walked to bring home another run, giving the Royals a 13-0 lead.
But the Ironbirds finally got to Kahn, scoring a run in the bottom of the 5th on a double, wild pitch and a sac fly, bringing the score to 13-1.
In the top of the 6th, Zach Sloane led off by reaching on an error. Stephan Ohayon walked, and Brett Kahanowitch singled to load the bags for Mike Miller, who promptly hit a sac fly to center to plate 1. Michael Schoefield walked to load the bases again, and Al Garcia was hit by a pitch to bring home another. Phil Acosta singled home his first rbi as a Royal, and David LeBreche capped off his big day with an rbi-single, giving the Royals a 17-1 lead.
Daniel Kahn worked around a single and an error in the bottom of the 6th, keeping the mercy intact and finishing his first complete game victory as a Royal.
Congrats to the Ironbirds for fighting all the way to the end. And finally, congrats to all the Royal rookies - Daniel Kahn, Phil Acosta and David LeBreche - on their opening day performances. Welcome to the team!

The Royals ended their streak of 3 straight championship game appearances with a sub-par 5-13-1 season, a lot of that due to injuries and players simply quitting on the team. But things are looking up for the boys in royal blue, as they won 4 of their last 7 games, averaging more than 10 runs scored per game.
Congrats go out to Ryan Elliott (MVP, team leading 22 runs and 26 rbis), Greg Falk (Cy Young, team leading .487 batting average, 37 hits and 16 stolen bases), Mike Miller (team leading 10 walks) and Rick Valdez (team leading 3 home runs.) These 4 guys were also the Royals' all-star representatives (along with Dominic Archey), showing that they led the team all season long. Great job guys!
Royals Go Out With A Win, 11-7 Over Warhawks
The Royals would end the regular season with a game against the Warhawks (aided with a few Arsenal players looking for another game.) With neither team heading to the post-season, but both coming back next season, this could be an early match-up of playoff-bound teams in the fall.Pitching

Royals Hunt Down Cubs, 11-7

Warriors Stifle Royals Offense, Win 8-3
Following suit from the rivalry made in last fall's championship game, the Warriors and Royals battled in another close game, with the Warriors pitching and defense holding off the Royals potent offense.
The Warriors scored one early off of starter Nick Green, who's control eluded him a bit this game. But the Royals responded right away. Greg Falk and Richard Lizarraga each singled to lead off the first. With 2 outs, Mike Miller singled home Falk to tie the game.
The Warriors scored 6 more runs over the next 3 innings on 8 walks, 2 hits and a catcher's interference. Heading into the bottom of the 4th, the Warriors led 7-1 until Rick Valdez launched a home run far over the right field netting. After 4 innings, the Warriors led 7-2.
The Royals brought in Greg Falk, and finally healthy, he was masterful. He threw the final 6 1/3 innings, allowing a total of 2 unearned runs on 4 hits and 3 walks, striking out 9. However, the Warriors pitching was equally masterful, and entering the bottom of the 8th, the score was 8-2 Warriors.
Brett Kahanowitch hit a one-out double, and Richard Lizarraga singled him home. But that would be all the scoring, and the final score would be 8-3 in favor of the Warriors.

Royals Blast Arsenal, 18-4
The Royals finally got the pitching they've needed all season, though it was a little too late for their playoff aspirations. Nick Green stepped up and threw a complete game against a short-squad Arsenal team, allowing only 1 earned run while striking out 9 in the win.
The Arsenal started off strong, scoring 2 unearned runs in the top of the 1st. But the Royals answered quickly in the bottom half of the inning. Greg Falk and Brett Kahanowitch led off with singles, and after a Mike Miller walk, Ryan Elliott singled home a pair to tie the game.
Three singles and a walk in the top of the 2nd gave the Arsenal a 3-2 lead, and the Royals would wait until the bottom of the 3rd to respond.
Mike Miller and Ryan Elliott led off with back-to-back doubles to tie the score again. Jason Bolding singled home Elliott, and Dennis King III doubled home Bolding. Greg Falk singled, and with 2 outs, Richard Lizarraga singled home one. Mike Miller plated a pair on a 2-out error ground ball to short, and Ryan Elliott made the error especially painful with his second double of the inning. After 3 in the books, the Royals led 9-3.
The Arsenal would get an unearned run back in the top of the 4th, but the Royals would respond with their second straight 7-run inning. Nick Green singled, and Greg Falk doubled him to 3rd. Brett Kahanowitch plated one with an error, and Richard Lizarraga and Mike Miller each followed with an rbi-single. Ryan Elliott hit his 3rd consecutive double to bring home 2 more, and Jason Bolding tripled him home, and after Green walked, Greg Falk tripled home the pair. After 4 innings, the Royals led 16-4.
Green struck out the side in the 5th, and the Royals added more in the bottom of the inning. Richard Lizarraga led off with a single, and after Ryan Elliott got hit by a pitch, Dennis King III hit a 2-out rbi double (though it was arguably a home run - the umpires claimed the ball went THROUGH the netting at Alemany High School. No matter what, the ball was CRUSHED.) Nick Green would finish the scoring with an rbi-single, then strike out the side in the top of the 6th to finish the game.

Outlaws Hold Up Royals, 23-10
The Outlaws put up 14 runs in a run-away 3rd inning, then held strong as the Royal offense surged late in a 3-hour, 6-inning game.
Brett Kahanowitch started for the Royals, and allowed just 1 run over the first 2 innings, but the Royal offense was quiet early.
In the top of the 3rd, the Outlaws scored 14 runs on 9 hits, 5 walks and 2 hit batsman. After scoring another in the 4th and holding a dominant 16-0 lead, the Royals finally got up off the mat.
Greg Falk and Ric Valdez singled, and Brett Kahanowitch followed with a 3-run home run. Richard Lizarraga and Mike Miller followed with back-to-back doubles, chasing the Outlaws starting pitcher, but that would be all the scoring. Outlaws led 16-4 after 4 in the books.
The Outlaws would respond with 4 of their own in the 5th, but the Royals would answer right back. Steve Apperson singled and scored one out later on a Jon Espinoza triple. Greg Falk got hit by a pitch, and Ric Valdez walked to load the bases. Brett Kahanowitch singled home one, and Richard Lizarraga beat out a slow roller to plate another, making it a 20-7 game.
The Outlaws would respond AGAIN with 3 runs in the top of the 6th, but the Royals weren't done yet. Ryan Elliott reached on an error, and after Dominic Archey singled and Dennis King III walked to load the baes, Quincy Smith grounded into a run-scoring fielder's choice. Steve Apperson single homed another, and Shelby Hunt grouned into a fielder choice to score another, only to be cut down at the plate on a Jon Espinoza double to end the inning (and the game.)
Congrats to the Outlaws - it would have been easy to get lazy after an early 16-0 lead, but they kept the pressure on all game to secure the win.

Royals Set Records in 19-16 loss to Dodos
Coming into Spring 2015, the Royals had only 5 players have 5-hit games. In the last 2 weeks, the Royals have seen that number double, as Richard Lizarraga and Brenton Bowen achieved the feat last week, and Ryan Elliott, Mike Miller and Dennis King III did so this week, albeit in a tough loss to the Dodos.
The Royals loaded the bases in the first, but came up with nothing. Rick Valdez took the mound and worked a quiet first, and the Royals scored first in the 2nd. New Royal Nick Murphy singled, moved to second on a Dennis King III single, and third when Quincy Smith took a pitch to the shin. Greg Falk knocked in Murphy on a ground out to give the Royals a short-lived 1-0 lead.
The Dodos plated 8 in the bottom of the inning, setting the pace for a game with plenty of offense but little pitching or defense.
In the top of the 3rd, Richard Lizarraga reached on an error. Mike Miller singled him to third (barely missing a home run over the short porch in right field), and Ryan Elliott doubled home one. 1 out later, Nick Murphy reached on an error, and Dennis King III singled home a run. With 2 outs, Greg Falk singled home another, cutting the lead to 8-4.
After a quiet bottom of the inning, the Royal offense continued pounding away. Richard Lizarraga led off with a single, and Mike Miller doubled him to 3rd. Ryan Elliott singled home 1, and Dominic Archey tripled home a pair. cutting the lead to 8-7.
The Dodos plated 3 in the bottom of the inning, bringing up the Royals in the top of the 5th. Greg Falk walked and stole second. Rick Valdez singled him home, and 2 outs later, Ryan Elliott doubled home Falk to make the score 13-9.
But the Dodos matched those 2 runs in the bottom of the 5th, and scored 3 more in each of the next 2 innings to stretch their lead to 19-9.
In the top of the 8th, Nick Murphy led off with a single, moving to third on a Dennis King III single. Greg Falk grounded into an rbi fielder's choice, and the Royals trailed 19-10.
Ryan Elliott and his magic knuckleball worked a quiet bottom of the 8th, and with 1 minute remaining, the Royals worked just fast enough to squeeze in the final inning. Richard Lizarraga and Mike Miller led off with back-to-back singles, and Ryan Elliott knocked in 1 with his 3rd double of the day. Dominic Archey knocked in another with a single, as did Nick Murphy. Dennis King III brought home a pair with his first career triple, and he scored one out later on Greg Falk's ground out. With 2 outs, Rick Valdez singled, putting the tying run on deck, but the Dodos would strike out the final batter to secure a crazy win.
Great job by the Dodos - and may I say a much more interesting game than the blow-out loss they served the Royals just 2 weeks earlier.
Finally, congrats to Nick Murphy on his first hit as a Royal, and super congrats to Ryan Elliott, Mike Miller and Dennis King III for their 5-hit performances - matching the Royals single game record!

Royals Finally Win Again - 14-13 vs WarHawks
The Royals won just their second game of the season - in unbelievable fashion - as they outlasted the WarHawks 14-13. With only 8 Royals at the game, the WarHawks put up a fight every inning, with the Royals eventually winning as the WarHawks stranded the tying run on 3rd in the bottom of the 9th.
Pitcher Ryan Davis threw the complete game, allowing 17 hits but only 1 walk. With 1 out in the bottom of the 9th and the tying run on 3rd, he dug deep to induce an infield pop-up and a strike out to finish the game.
Long-time Royal (and current season fill-in) Richard Lizarraga led the offensive charge, collecting 5 hits in 6 plate appearances, knocking in 3 runs. Brenton Bowen had 5 hits of his own, scoring 4 times, and Dennis King had 4 hits, including what would end up being the game winning rbi in the top of the 9th.
Overall, a great team win as the guys who showed pulled together to outlast a scrappy WarHawks team. Good luck the rest of the way!
And finally, congrats go out to Ryan Davis and Quincy Smith, who both received their first hits as Royals! Way to go guys!
