The Spartans opened their 2012 season with a non-league defeat to Hilton by a score of 5 - 0 at Hilton under the lights. Hilton scored 4 minutes into the game on a Spartan defensive breakdown. They would get 2 more in the first half to head into halftime with a 3 - 0 lead. The Spartans showed some life late in the half and playing even with the Cadets for the last 15 minutes. Hilton would add 2 more goals in the 2nd half (1 early and one with just 4 minutes left).
Players of the match: Chris Stanton played great in goal making 13 saves (3 spectacular diving saves). Nick Oliveri was very strong in the middle, played all 80 minutes and did well distributing the ball, supporting the attack and getting back on defense.
The Spartans fell to a strong Arcadia team by a score of 6 – 1. The Titans lead 3 – 0 at the half and then outscored Olympia 3 – 1 in the second half. A game of missed opportunities for the Spartans who had their chances.
The Spartans fell to 0 - 2 in the division and 0 - 3 overall losing to the Odyssey Leopards by a score of 4 - 0. Playing very uninspired soccer, the Spartans gave an early goal on a corner kick in the first 5 minutes and never got back in it after that. Odyssey the scored 15 minutes later on a long throw in at net that was headed in. Two keeper miscues would cost the Spartans the last couple goals.
Athena opened the scoring 5 minutes and 28 seconds into the game on a shot upper 90 past a diving Chris Stanton. They would score again a minute and a half later on a free kick that went under the wall and under Chris Stanton's dive. The Spartans would show some life holding strong for the next fifteen minutes and haviong a few scoring opportunities themselves before Athena scored their third goal on a defensive miscue. The Trojans would score one more time in the half and then 3 more in the 2nd half to take the non-league game 7 - 0. The Spartans just missed on a score as Danny Dang struck a ball from outside the 18 that beat the keeper but carrummed off the cross bar. Chris stanton had 12 saves in the match and Forward Tremaine Yound anf midfielder Danny Dang each had strong games for the Spartans.
The Spartans fell to 0 - 5 with a tough loss to the Batavia Blue Devils 1 - 0 in Batavia. The Spartans played well but were unable to find the back of the net. A combination of good saves by Batavia and some missed opportunities (including an empty netter) lead to the scoreless effort for Olympia. Olympia out shot Batavia 11 - 10. Batavia slotted a nice throughball and finished a nice pass past Chris Stanton for the only goal in the 11th minute of the game.
Olympia lost its second straight close game by a score of 3 - 2 to Monroe Edison. The Spartans struck first as Tremaine Young scored midway through the first half on a pass from Mike Roby to give Olympia the early lead. The score would remain 1 - 0 into halftime. The Spartans widened their lead early in the second half as Danny Dang poked the ball past a diving keeper on a corner kick from Paul Palmgreen that Antonio Guarraci flicked onto Danny. Monroe would strike back 10 minutes later though on a beautiful one timer from outside the 18 to side netting, making the score 2 - 1 with 27 minutes remaining. Monroe would close the game with 2 more goals in the final 15 minutes to steal the game from the Spartans.
The Spartans soccer team bounced back from a tough loss with a very spirited effort against East Irondequoit under the lights. Going into the game with only 12 eligible players...Olympia played even with the Lancers for the first 20 minutes...including a couple of great scoring opportunities. East Irondequoit would strike in the 20th minute on a deflected ball that carrummed off a East Irondequoit player and slipped past keeper Chris Stanton and rolled into the net. Olympia used that unfortunate goal as motivation and controlled play for the final 15 minutes of the half. Danny Dang just missed an equalizer as he broke free of the defense on a quick restart, but the ball got away from him on the turf and the keeper made the save. Rider Rodriguez and Paul Palmgreen set up multiple opportunities for equalizers as they played very solid first halves. The game could have gone either way in the second half until the Lancers best player hit a great shot from the corner of the 18 over a diving Chris Stanton. Olympia would not give up and played right to the whistle. A great game was played by all and the Spartans are looking like they are finding thei form at the right time and look forward to the second half of the season.
Olympia lost to state ranked #18 Greece Arcadia by a score of 10 - 0. Rider Rodriguez played well for the Spartans.
After keeping the game scoreless through the half, Odyssey came out and scored 4 goals in the second to take the divisional match by a score of 4 – 0. Chris Stanton had 8 saves.
The Spartans remained winless as they lost to Jefferson-Franklin by a score of 2 - 0. Dylank Frank played well in net while the Spartan defense was solid for most of the game keeping the Spartans within striking distance. A goal in the last minute of play on a shot from outside the 18 gave Jefferson-Franklin the final blow to take down the Spartans.
Olympia fell to East High by a score of 3 - 1 in the Columbus Day match up. After trailing 3 - 0 heading into half, the spartans controlled play and outscored East 1 - 0, though missed on too many opportunities to be able to take the lead. Dylan Frank had 11 saves for the Spartans while Mike Roby scored his first goal of the season (assisted by Dylan Frank on a long punt from goal).
First victory of the season! Olympia 1 - Geneva 0! Great game by all! Congrats to Dylan Frank on his first shut out in net and the Defense for extending its scoreless streak to 120 minutes. Mike Roby is finding form at the perfect time scoring in his second straight game.
Winning Streak! The Spartans beat SOTA today 4 - 0! Paul Palmgreen scored 2 goals, while Mike Roby and Duc Dang each had a goal and an assist! Dylan Frank had his second straight shutout.
The Spartans continued its run to finish the season with their 3rd victory in a row defeating Monroe at Edison High School 3 - 2! Olympia jumped out to a 3 - 0 lead and took that lead into halftime before their record 3 game shutout streak (240 minutes) was broken by the dangerous Larry Morales, twice in 3 minutes. The spartans would hold on for the victory after that though and clinch a spot in sectionals, moving into the #9 seed. Rider Rodriguez scored two goals while Paul Palmgreen continued his offensive barrage with his own goal with a well struck ball from outside the 18 to upper 90. Freshman Miralem Buljina assisted on both of Rider's goals while Mohammed Marini got his first point feeding Paul for his goal. The Spartans moved to 3 - 11 on the season and look to continue this run against Batavia Thursday at Olympia Soccer Stadium. Great win boys...let's keep rollin!
Olympia lost a tough one, ending its three game winning streak 1 - 0 in 2OT against Batavia. The Spartans played an amazing 99 minutes as the sun went down and it became tough to even see the ball. The Blue Devils were awarded a free kick with 50 seconds left in 2OT and scored past a diving Dylan Frank. Dylan played amazing in net racking up 11 saves.
The Spartans lost their 2nd straight game by a score of 1 - 0. East Irondequoit controlled play early but could not find the back of the net...while Olympia had a few opportunities on counters. After a 0 - 0 tie at the half, the game was a coin flip until the Lancers slid one accross the box as a sliding kick slipped the ball past a diving Dylan Frank with just over 5 minutes to play. Dylan had his best game of the season racking up 15 saves. Shakir Underwood and Nick Oliveri were very strong on defense, while Danny Dang continues to impress in the attacking 1/3 of the field.
The Spartans ended their season losing to HFL by a score of 7 – 0.Dylan Frank and Chris Stanton combined for 13 saves. Olympia finishes the season with a record of 3 – 14.
