2013 Game Summaries

9/6/13 - Sodus Kickoff Tournament: Olympia @ Sodus (Olympia 5 - Sodus 1)

The JV Boys Soccer team defeated Sodus 5 - 1 Friday afternoon improving their win streak to 2 games carrying over from last season.  Congratulations to Coach Oneill on getting his first victory as a head coach in the program in his first game! Courtney Hill and Hassan Hussein each scored two goals while Noah Mohamed scored one for the Spartans.  Spencer Johnson, Manh Nguyen, Dalton Gormel, and Kyle Heberger each had assists in the victory.  The team will play McQuaid in the Championship game at 3 PM on Saturday at Sodus.

 

9/7/13 Sodus Tournament Championship Game vs. McQuaid (McQuaid 4 Olympia 0)

 The Spartans lost 4 – 0 to McQuaid.  Joey Carlson made 8 Saves.  The team played in bringing home the 2nd Place Trophy. 

 

9/9/13 @ East Irondequoit (Olympia 2 East Irondequoit 3)

We lost 3 – 2.  Spencer Johnson assisted on Hassan Hussein’s goal which came in the 21st minute for the Spartans.  This was his 3rd goal of the season.  Noah Mohamed scored on a Penalty in the 70th minute to bring us within a goal.  Our furious rally came up short as we tried everything to get the equalizing goal. 

 

9/11/13 vs. Greece Arcadia (Greece Arcadia 9 Olympia 1)

Joey Carlson scored the lone Spartan goal in the 84th minute in a lost vs. Greece Arcadia.  Peter Mercone had the assist on the goal.  Joey started the game in goal and made 10 Saves in the 1st half.   In the 2nd Half Chris Haskins made his debut in goal with 3 saves. 

 

9/13/13 vs. Churchville-Chili (C-C 11 Olympia 0)

In our home game vs. Churchville-Chili Joey Carlson made 9 Saves in the 1st Half, and then we had another debut in goal as Jordan Brown made 4 saves in the 2nd Half in a loss.

 

9/17/13 vs. Greece Odyssey (Greece Odyssey 11 Olympia 2)

Noah Mohamed scored two goals vs. Greece Odyssey.   He scored his first in the 47th minute.  Then his 2nd goal his goal came off a direct kick just over half field.  Jordan Brown made the start in goal and had 7 saves in his first career start as a goalie. 

 

9/23/13 @ Greece Odyssey (Greece Odyssey 7 Olympia 1)

In another game vs. Greece Odyssey Noah Mohamed tallied his 3rd third goal in two games vs. the Leopards.  Kevin Sloan assisted on this goal in the 11th minute.  Joey Carlson made 11 Saves for Olympia.  Our record drops to 1 – 6. 

 

10/1/13 vs. East Irondequoit (East Irondequoit 4 Olympia 1)

The Spartans scored the first goal of the game vs. East Irondequoit.  Evan Donovan used his left foot to get score his first Junior Varsity goal.  In his first game of the season Tin Pham registered the assist.  Unfortunately, the Lancers scored the four goals to win the game.  Joey Carlson stopped 12 shots to keep the Lancers at only four goals.

 

10/9/13 @ Greece Arcadia (Olympia 0 Greece Arcadia 4)

In today’s game vs. Greece Arcadia the Spartans faired by better than the first game, however they still came up short in a 4 – 0 defeat.  Joey Carlson notched 16 saves for the 1 – 8 Spartans.

 

10/11/13 @ Greece Odyssey (Olympia 1 Greece Odyssey 4)

The Spartans continued to show improvement against teams they previously played.  Joey Carlson tied the score at 1 in the 24th minute with an assist from Kevin Sloan.  Chris Haskins played very well in goal for the Spartans as he stopped 11 shots from the Leopards. 

 

10/15/13 vs. Sodus (Sodus 2 Olympia 1)

In a rematch of our only we on the season; the Spartans played their final game of the season vs. Sodus.  Tin Pham scored a goal in 19th minute on a breakaway after Ahmed Alsaedi gave him a pass.  Sodus scored two goals in the 2nd half giving them the win.  Chris Haskins made his second consecutive start in goal and played well making 7 saves.  The JV Spartans ended their season at 1 – 10.

 

Season Summary

The season started out on a high note as we defeated Sodus in the first round of their own tournament.  Throughout the season we showed improvement versus teams that had previously defeated us.  We scored in eight of our 11 games for a total of 14 goals on the season.  We had six different players score a goal this year.  Noah Mohamed lead the team with five goals, followed by Hassan Hussein with three, Joey Carlson and Courtney Hill had two goals each, Evan Donovan and Tin Pham had one each.  Seven different Spartans had assists on our 14 goals.  Spencer Johnson, Kevin Sloan, and Kyle Heberger had two assists each.  Tallying one assist each were Peter Mercone, Ahmed Alsaedi, and Manh Nguyen.  Joey Carlson, Chris Haskins, and Jordan Brown all saw time in net for Olympia.  All three of guys played well against some very talented teams.   The Spartan soccer program hopes to continue on the success that the Varsity team had in 2013.  The future looks better for the Spartans.
