Coaching Expectations

Thank you for your interest in coaching at Field of Dreams. Our volunteers & coaches are the backbone of our league and we rely on you to make our league a success.

Because we want you to make an informed decision, we wanted to relay our expectations for coaches in our league. In addition to running practices and coaching games, you will also be expected to do the following:

  • Obtain a CAA badge.
  • Obtain the NYSCA Certification for general sports. Note, there is no custom course for coaching special kids.
  • Be CPR/AED certified.
  • Attend any mandatory coaches meeting.
  • Participate in any of our require coaching clinics or certification classes.
  • Pick up team equipment and first aid kit at the assigned times and be sure it is maintained in safe working condition.
  • Recruit a Team Leader from your team to perform many of the day-to-day functions of the team such as handling communications between the league and parents, performing administrative functions such as distributing pictures and coordinating volunteers.
  • Prepare for each game by having a line-up and field position plan as well as a line-up for the opposing team's scorebook.
  • Prepare the field for play if you are the home team, and maintain the scoreboard box if you are the visiting team.
  • Maintain the league equipment as if it were your own... which means replacing ay of the equipment you use back into storage, cleaning out the dugout and shutting off the lights.
  • Adhere to all Field of Dreams rules and regulations, including:
    • The role of the head coach and all assistant coaches are to be instructors and teachers of the game. Players and spectators will model the behaviors displayed on and off the field that originates from these individuals. In essence, you are role models and facilitators of a rewarding experience for all.
    • The Head Coach and all assistant coaches are ultimately responsible for the behavior of their players and spectators.
    • Any verbal or physical display of unsportsmanlike behavior on the part of any person affiliated with a team; any intentional violation of these playing rules and regulations or any action that is deemed inappropriate by the umpire or Designated League Official (DLO), is grounds for immediate ejection of that individual by the umpire or DLO. When an ejection occurs, all disciplinary actions and procedures as defined by the Creeks Athletic Association (CAA) and by St. Johns County Parks and Recreation will apply.
