The PAL thanks Brandon Pereira and congratulates him on his Eagle Scout project.
Brandon and crew (many pictured above) prepped and repainted the scoreboxes, dugouts, and bleachers at the
PAL Complex last weekend. Brandon puts a lot of pride into his work around the PAL. It is certainly appreciated!
The Plainville Athletic League believes in giving back to the community which has been supporting us since 1955 through a variety of programs:
Our annual food drive, PAL Cares a TON, benefits Plainville residents in need via the Plainville United Methodist Church's Living Bread food pantry. To date, over 15,000 pounds of food and household supplies have been contributed, with an additional 5000 pounds targeted for 2014.
The PAL is actively involved in raising awareness of breast cancer for our participants through the "PAL Goes Pink" program. Each year funds are collected to support local family's efforts to walk in the Avon Walk for a Cure. Over $10,000 has been pledged in the first four years of the event. Mothers Day weekends have been a bit more special as a result, with many teams adding a touch of pink to their uniforms at that time.
We proudly offer up to $3000 in scholarships to PAL alumni graduating from area high schools each year to further pursue their college educations or post-graduation studies. The recipients of these scholarships are students who spent many years growing up through the PAL programs and feel those experiences helped shape them as the young men and women to lead our community into the future. To date, over $27,000 has been raised and awarded to 38 recipients. Scholarship information and applications can be found at this link. The scholarships are funded via our annual Memorial Day Girls Fast Pitch Softball Tournaments.
We actively support the Ryan's Hope Foundation, formed by a Plainville family whose now twelve year old son, Ryan, was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) at age two. The Foundation was formed specifically to speed the rate of scientific research that will lead to a cure for DMD. For more information, please click the link.
We have also teamed with our local Girl Scout troop to initiate a successful recycling program, and each Spring work with the King Philip High girls softball program in collecting litter from the conservation areas surrounding the PAL Complex. We also offer hours to students looking for community service opportunities for both Tri County RVTHS and local Confirmation classes.
