A 2001 graduate and former All-State Selection for West Lincoln, Darren Leonard continued his baseball career at Surry Community College.  Darren began his college career by stepping right into the weekend rotation as a freshman.  Beginning the 2003 season, Darren was selected to the NJCAA/Collegiate Baseball Pre-Season All- American Team.  During the fall of that year, Darren began to experience back problems and was not able to finish his sophomore season.  However, this injury did not slow Darren down in the classroom, as he was selected to Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges.  Darren's injuries eventually forced him to give up the game he loved.
