We're hosting the 8th annual Empire Cup in 2021. We invite the top amateur teams in the area to compete against our league's best. This event will once again be scouted and promoted on social media. All games will be played at Schenectady's Central Park, with all championships being played at the newly turfed A Diamond.

The purpose of this event has always been to give our teams an opportunity to compete against some of the top amateur teams from throughout the region. Our teams are comprised of players from the area's finest & most reputable high school baseball programs. Our events are well attended and while we don't guarantee any coaches will attend, we do invite just about every college in the region. You can also expect to play on some of the area's best amateur fields, including but not limited to; Clifton Commons in Clifton Park, North Colonie's Boght Rd Complex in Latham, South Colonie's Cook Park, Guilderland's Dutchmen Field, Schenectady's Central Park, Knickerbacker Park in Lansingburgh, & Bethlehem's Line Drive Fields. EMPIRE CUP RULES/STRUCTURE
Structure
- Teams first compete in pool play & then in single-elimination/consolation play on Sunday.
- Teams play each team in their pool once. (Max. 2 games Saturday, 3 games Sunday) Coin-flip determines home team in pool play. W-L record determines pool winners-tie breaker is head to head record.
- Pool winners will meet in a single-elimination semifinal, with the winners advancing to the Empire Cup. Seeding for the semifinals will be determined by W-L record, then the lowest number of runs allowed, and then the number of defensive shutout innings in pool play. The higher seeded team will be the home team throughout single-elimination & consolation.
- Teams that don’t advance to single elimination will be matched up for a consolation game Sunday based on comparative W-L records and travel distance. Travel to an alternate pool site may be required.
- $895($795 for 13u-15u) per team covers field costs, umpires, and baseballs for the entirety of the tournament. Teams must be registered/paid in full 2 weeks prior to the Cup or they will not be scheduled
- Teams should be prepared to play at 9 AM on Saturday. Please notify us as early as possible about any schedule accommodations your team may need to help facilitate your participation.
Rules
- AABC tournament rules govern play (www.aabc.us/resources) with these exceptions:
- The NFHS High School Re-Entry Rule is in effect.
- We allow the use of a DH or EH. No DH is allowed at 13u-15u.
- Wood Bats ONLY at 16u-18u. BBCOR .50/USA Baseball Certified Metal Bats allowed at 13u-15u.
- Players/Coaches ejected from a game must leave the field complex for the remainder of the game and are also ineligible for the team’s next game.
- Mercy Rule- 8 runs after 5 innings, 10 runs after 4 innings, and 12 runs after 3 innings and applies in all games.
- Game protests must be accompanied by $100 cash and ruled upon by the site director at the time of the protest. If the protest is upheld, $100 will be returned, if denied $100 will be lost. (page 24)
- Pitching Rules- no player may pitch more than 11 innings during the tournament. If a pitcher throws more than 50 pitches on Saturday, they are ineligible to pitch on Sunday.
- Rosters
- Locked when play begins with a 22-player limit at 16u-18u & a 20-player limit at 13u-15u.
- Your age on April 30, 2021, is your baseball age for this event. Proof of age may be required if requested by an opposing manager.
