A 2002 graduate of West Lincoln High School, Matt Craig continued his baseball career at Limestone University with Coach Anthony "Chico" Lombardo. As a freshman, Matt spent his time learning the ropes of the collegiate game and fine-tuning his skills for what would be an outstanding career. In 2004, as a sophomore: in 30 games, he hit .323 ranking 2nd on the team and had 11 SB to rank 3rd on the team. As a junior, he had a team high 75 hits and .364 average, to go with 12 2B's, 2 3B's, 3 HR's, 35 RBI's, and 13 SB's. These numbers were good enough to make him a CVAC 1st Team All-Conference selection, and give him a career total of 105 hits, 20 2B's, 4 3B's, 4 HR's, 53 RBI, and 24 SB to go with his .348 average. Unfortunately for the Limestone Saints, Matt was forced to complete his senior year of eligibility after fulfilling a two year commitment to the United States Armed Forces.
