My name is Ethan Points and I play for the Colorado Mesa University men's lacrosse
team. I've been playing under Coach Mike Staub since the summer going into my sophomore year, and I know this isn't how most testimonials go, but I want to say Thank You. Thank you, because without your coaching, I wouldn't be the player and more importantly man I am today. Playing under you at both Dirty Birds and Pearland has prepared me for the college game and all the challenges that come with being a college student off the field.
When I arrived on campus I was worried that my skill level wouldn't be able to match the college game. I soon learned that raw skill isn't what separates you at the next level. It's about grit and heart. When the whistle blows and the ball is rolled out and you have another man looking you in the eyes, wanting to take what’s yours, your ability to be the best looking player on the field or to have the best toe drag in the country is only going to get you embarrassed. Your ability to look that player back in his eyes and tell him "not today" is what it really comes down to. I, along with every player that was ever blessed to be coached by him, learned through him throwing a whole bunch of us Texas boys into the fire against the cream of the crop in Maryland, making sure that the fundamentals were the top priority at his club, and making practice a battlefield not a petty social club. This is what you get with Coach. You learn how to attack and excel at the game.
That being said, if you want to learn how lacrosse should actually be played, there shouldn't be a doubt about where to go. Its Dirty Birds.
