 SUGGESTIONS FOR PARENTS

  1. Try to attend all games and bring as many family and friends as possible. Please be positive in the stands. Cheer for good play at all times (even acknowledging outstanding performances by the opponent or official). Focus on the good things that happen, however subtle they may be. Cheer performances and limit instruction giving (may oppose team tactics and can be confusing). Wear green and gold if possible.
  2. Support and encourage players during tough times. Support and encourage team unity, high character, discipline, and responsibility in your son on and off of the field.
  3. Address any concerns in an appropriate forum. Contact your son’s coach personally away from other people. If you are not satisfied contact Coach DuPrau as a next course of action, and finally Olympia’s athletic director.
  4. Be understanding that often times spectators and parents are not privy to the context of situations, are misinformed, are not aware of details, or often only hear one side to a story. If you have questions or concerns regarding any aspect of the program the coaching staff is open to communication at all times.
  5. Although you may not agree with decisions made by coaches (playing time, tactics etc.) be assured that there is a rhyme and reason, and rationale for it. Coaches will do their best to develop players and people, to consider individual player needs and wishes in context of the team concept, and to put forth a competitive side at the same time.
  6. Promote our players and program. Speak with pride about our program.
  7. COMMUNICATION. Do not hesitate to contact a coach (for positive things, as well as concerns). Our program website is a great way to communicate information, and to reach coaches.
  8. You are encouraged to volunteer to help with various game day responsibilities, season-ending banquets, and other events.

Volunteer Opportunities:

  • collect newspaper clippings and articles
  • take photographs of players
  • videotape games
  • work in concession booth
  • work in press box (clock, statistics)
  • coordinate banquets, in-season parties, or other events
  • share information for the website
  • solicit ball boys/girls
  • "dress" stands on game days with green and gold balloons, signs etc.
