SPANJERS PARK

Tucked away on Lake Drive, Spanjers Park is a hidden gem that sits next door to City Hall and blocks away from Downtown Robbinsdale. Well known among its residents for the signature high fence, tree lined center field and lights that produce a glow over the lower side of Bottineau Drive when lit up at night.

Spanjers used to host hundreds of games a year in the glory days of Robbinsdale and even featured restrooms, concessions and a press box. Robbinsdale Little League, Sacred Heart, TLC and Robbinsdale High School were all tenants of Spanjers Park at one time or another. The popular Robbinsdale slow-pitch softball league that dominated the northwest suburbs in the eighties and nineties also called Spanjers home, until the league slowly faded out as surrounding cities had better options.

In the late nineties, they reconstructed Spanjers Field, ripped down the yellow concrete blockhouse that once housed the concessions, press box and restrooms and built better flood protection to protect the field and surrounding homes and businesses. Today Spanjers is still used for the Armstrong-Cooper Softball Classic, the Whiz Bang Woody Softball Tournament, Sacred Heart and Golden Valley Traveling Softball teams and in the Fall hosts numerous soccer leagues and games.
