WHIZ BANG DAYS

Whiz Bang Days is Robbinsdale’s annual summer celebration; the “first” suburb sure knows how to celebrate.

The first magazine publication of Fawcett Publications was Captain Billy's Whiz Bang in 1919. Wilford Hamilton Fawcett (1885-1940) was a WWI Army captain as well as the founder of Fawcett Publications. The title of his cartoon joke magazine came from his experience with war artillery, specifically the bombs that "whizzed" as they flew through the air and "banged" as the exploded. This was a very popular read and was entertaining to many people. In 1936, the last issue of Captain Billy's Whiz Bang was released. The location of the Fawcett offices is now where Nonna Rosa's Ristorante Italiano is located. In 1948, the City of Robbinsdale began the festival Whiz Bang Days in honor of Captain Billy.

Enjoy the festivities Robbinsdale has to offer this summer from July 9th – 12th.
