MAD-CITY 3peat CHAMPS!

The team traveled to Madison, Wisconsin on September 18th, 2019.  This is a long-lived Bronco lacrosse tradition for as long as any alumni can remember. For the third year in a row, the boys entered with a new head coach and high hopes to win the Mad City Championship

In the middle of the afternoon on the 19th, the Broncos faced their first opponent in the Michigan Wolverines. The offense filled with both new and returning players struck fast and quickly took the lead. Taking pride in the ride and all-around effort as a team the WMU Broncos won game one with a score of 11-2.

In their second game an hour later the team competed in a hard-fought game against Cincinnati! The game went back and forth with both teams being competitive. Maximizing on a few man up opportunities and some very stout and smart defensive plays the boys were able to capture the second victory of the day 8-5!

Sunday's championship game pitted the Broncos against a familiar opponent. The University of Wisconsin-Madison for the third year in a row would put the team to the test. The Badgers came out swinging gaining a 4-1 lead going into the half putting WMU on their heels. However, during the half, the team made the necessary changes and the leaders amongst the boys got the team ready to answer back. The second half was an entirely different story as the broncos went on to score five unanswered goals to win their third Mad-City championship in a row!

We are proud of the current team as they have put in a ton of hard work during the fall to raise their game. They faced all kinds of unique challenges and overcame each of them as a united team throughout the entire weekend. The Broncos are back to work on Wednesday after some much needed time off, however, we will not be going far. November 17th the team will travel down to South Bend to play both the Irish of Notre Dame and the University of Kentucky's respective club teams.  Games kick off sharp at noon and 1 pm EST.

WMU Names Justin Shipp as New Head Coach

KALAMAZOO, MI - Sept. 2019

Starting in the 2019 Fall Season the Western Michigan Broncos have announced Justin Shipp as their new head coach.

Team President Slank said that the team is excited to have coach Shipp lead the program for the 2019 - 2020 season! “We are ready to take the next step as a program and continue to push towards making the playoffs in 2020. Coach Shipp brings a ton of coaching experience with him having coached a decade and having great leadership and organizational abilities from his 9 years of service in the army.

I am really looking forward to returning to my alma mater as the new head coach of the men's lacrosse team said, Shipp. The new coach played for the Broncos as a defensive midfield and graduated with a bachelor's in exercise science.  "The team here seems like a great bunch of guys that are eager to commit to the new direction and give everything they have to keep pushing the program to new heights. As they have gone through three different coaching staffs now in three years, it will be important for us to spend time getting a strong culture to build on. I am excited about the challenges that will come with leading this program and am fully committed to building a great program that Kalamazoo can be proud of for the foreseeable future.

This will be coach Shipp’s first time in the college coaching ranks however he has been very active in his ten years of coaching.  Starting just two years after high school becoming the youth director of Mattawan's boy's lacrosse program for five years in Kalamazoo. In addition, Shipp has been a coordinator on both sides of the ball at the high school level and running a travel lacrosse program in the area. Outside of coaching coach Shipp founded the South West Michigan Youth Lacrosse conference that he still helps organize to this day for youth players.
