Jay Gonzalez New Head Coach for Lumberjacks

BOONVILLE LUMBERJACKS ANNOUNCE HIRING OF JAY GONZALEZ AS TEAM MANAGER BOONVILLE-The Boonville Lumberjacks, a team in the East Division of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League, have signed Jay Gonzalez as the new Team Manager. This announcement was made today by Team Owners Butch Russo and Trevor Charbonneau. “Bringing Jay to Boonville is adding a huge asset to the program. I love his character and passion for the game. Jay will bring his 12 years of professional experience and knowledge of the game to help the talented young college players continue to improve. With his experience, he can help them get to the next level. He will create a new level of competitiveness in the program overall,” says Team Owner Butch Russo. Gonzalez, 32, becomes the 2nd Head Coach in Lumberjacks franchise history. Gonzalez enjoyed a successful career in Minor League baseball before retiring into coaching. Gonzalez has connections to Team Owner, Butch Russo, having played for him when Russo was the owner of the Utica Brewers in 2013. Gonzalez attended Auburn University in Alabama and University of Mount Olive in North Carolina before moving on to play professional baseball for 12 seasons. He was an MLB Draft Pick 3 times, eventually playing with the Baltimore Orioles on several of their Minor League Teams. He then played for the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Puerto Rico Professional Winter League, the Mexican Pacific Winter League, and for Independent Professional Baseball. He has proven his excellence by winning many awards and honors in his career, including a 5X Champion, 4X All-Star, Pan-American Gold Medalist, NCAA 1st Team All-American, and SEC Stolen Base King, among many others. Most recently, Jay Gonzalez has coached for the Phillies National Scout Team and is a High School hitting and Outfield coach for Cardinal Mooney High School. Gonzelez is committed to putting together a team that will make Boonville proud. “I plan to turn this ship around and bring a winning atmosphere and a Championship to the town of Boonville. Boonville is a great community, and I have seen the support that the town has given to the Lumberjacks. I want to give them a team to be proud of.
