PROGRAM ANNOUNCEMENT - DECEMBER 2, 2020
Good day to our West Wilkes Basketball Family! The West Wilkes Whirlies Staff hopes that you and your families are doing well as our Community, County, State, and Country continues to face and navigate through this current COVID pandemic. As we look at our 2020-2021 basketball season, our Staff has been closely reviewing State and County guidelines, including NCHSAA guidelines for high school sports.
It is with great regret that our Staff has decided for the welfare of our program, players, coaches, and parents that we will not offer a winter basketball season this year for our Whirlies program. Our Staff does not feel that we can continue to offer the same level of service to our players and coaches with concerns for the safety of our players, coaches, and parents, while also not jeopardizing high school athletics for West Wilkes High School through use of high school facilities. We trust that our basketball family will support our decision, noting that this is only a pause for our Whirlies program. Further, as of this date, we do not intend of hosting any West Wilkes Whirlies tournaments for the Winter 2020-2021 season.
Our Staff will provide another program update by March 1, 2021 as we will continue to closely monitor local County, State, and NCHSAA guidelines for sports during this pandemic. Finally, we ask that during this pandemic our basketball family continues to support our West Wilkes Basketball program! GO HAWKS!
